Chapter 3 of "Those Things of the Ming Dynasty" - Embarking on the Journey [Part II]

author:Ming Tombs Scenic Area

In many books, Zhu Zhongba is portrayed as a natural hero, so in such a script, Zhu Zhongba, who was born a hero, heard about the uprising, immediately returned to the temple to the guy and defected to the rebel army, showing his complete revolution and so on. In my opinion, this is not the real Zhu Zhongba.

As a normal person, when making a choice that may lose his head, he will never be so rash, if Zhu Zhongba is really such a reckless person, he is not a real hero. The real Zhu Zhongba is a person with a fear mentality, he has suffered greatly, and he has a bitter hatred for Yuan, but he also knows the preciousness of life, and once he chooses to rebel, there is no way back. Knowing the difficulties and pains that may be faced, constantly struggling in the fear of death, and still being able to overcome yourself and choose this path, is the real courage. Such Zhu Zhongba is the real hero, a hero who overcomes himself and is not afraid of death.

Zhu Zhongba's life in the temple was dull and regular, but this boring and regular life was disrupted by the raging fire of the uprising. Ironically, it was not the rebels who disrupted all this, but the yuan officials.

In the battle to suppress the rebel army, if you lose the battle, you will be punished by your superiors, but the task of suppressing the uprising must be completed, so the officials of the Yuan Dynasty resolutely decided to take the common people to the knife; since they could not defeat the rebel army, they would arrest the ordinary people who could be bullied and kill them as rebels.

From this point of view, the corrupt officials of the Yuan Dynasty really spared no effort and made great contributions to overthrowing the rule of the Yuan Dynasty. At this time, the situation in front of Zhu Zhongba was grim. If you don't revolt, you are likely to be caught by an official and killed as an insurgent, and then named Zhang San or Li Si. However, defecting to the rebel army is also a great risk, and once defeated by the Yuan army, it is also difficult to save your life. It was at this point that a letter completely changed his fate. His childhood friend Tang He wrote a letter to him, the content of which was that he had become a thousand households of the rebel army, hoping that Zhu Zhongba would also join the rebel army and seek wealth and prosperity.

After Zhu Zhongba read it, he did not move and burned the letter. He had not yet made psychological preparations to participate in the uprising. In the evening, however, his brother-in-law told him that someone had learned about his reading of the rebels' letters and was ready to denounce him. Zhu Zhongba was finally forced to a dead end. What followed was painful thinking and choice, and Zhu Zhongba had three paths in front of him: first, to stay in the temple; second, to escape; and third, to rebel.

Zhu Zhongba also couldn't make up his mind, he found a person and asked for his opinion. This man's name is Zhou Dexing, and we will often mention him later. Zhou Dexing didn't seem to have any good ideas, and his advice to Zhu Zhongba was to calculate a gua (what is this idea) and see which road is appropriate. The result of the calculation is that "the rule of escape is not auspicious, and it will be fierce", which means that it is not auspicious to escape and stay here, and it may be okay to rebel.

Zhu Zhongba understood that he had no way back, but he wanted to live honestly, plant two acres of land, and honor his parents, but he couldn't do it. My parents were burdened with heavy land endowments and servitude, and not a day went by without working diligently and earnestly, and they ended up with a ruined family. Hiding in the temple just wanted to eat a meal, and now he has been denounced and may have to lose his head. Be at the end of one's forbearance. That's the opposite! Anti-fucking! No one is willing to fight, willing to sacrifice their lives, but forcing Liangshan is their only fate. So I think the peasant uprisings in Chinese history are indeed worthy of affirmation, they may not be so generous, they may have their own plans, but they really have no choice. Tang He thus became Zhu Zhongba's first comrade-in-arms. In the days to come, he will accompany Zhu Zhongba through this arduous road.

However, Tang He would never have thought that he was actually the only one who accompanied him through this road.
