Hon Hai establishes Ion Trap Laboratory and expects to launch a 5-10 bit open source quantum computer within five years

Webmaster's House (ChinaZ.com) December 13 news: According to the official website of Hon Hai Group, Hon Hai Group announced on December 12 at the "NExT Forum Quantum Computing Forum" that it would establish an "Ion Trap Laboratory". The Hon Hai Research Institute of Quantum Computing is leading the development of a quantum compiler, which will be invested in the development and planning of ion trap quantum computers.

Officials said that it is expected to launch a 5-10-bit open source, encodeable ion trap quantum computer within 5 years as a prototype for the medium- and long-term scalable quantum computer platform. Liu Yangwei, chairman of Hon Hai Group, said that quantum technology can be regarded as an important technology driving artificial intelligence, new generation communications, semiconductors, and information security changes. He said that a series of intellectual property rights should be established on key technologies, including fault-tolerant computing, quantum sensing, quantum communication, quantum cryptography systems, etc., while actively investing in the research and development of quantum computer hardware to continue the advantages of Taiwan's semiconductor industry.

He said that the establishment of Hon Hai Research Institute is to upgrade the group from the past "labor intensive" to "brain intensive", and the institute will continue to innovate quantum science research and quantum computer research and development, so that the world can see the soft and hard power of Hon Hai in forward-looking technology.
