"Picking up cats" is a great joy in life, and cute cats often make "shovelers" unable to hold on. In recent years, cat ownership has become very popular among young people, and every day they pet cats and play with cats have become a lot of daily fun for "shovelers". However, it is worth noting that when in close contact with a pet, the hidden risk of disease cannot be ignored. Not long ago, Ms. Ling, who lives in Foshan, Guangdong Province, almost got into big trouble because of "picking up cats".
On December 5, Ms. Ling went to the Second People's Hospital of Foshan city for medical treatment due to fever and poor breathing that lasted for a week. According to the doctor, Ms. Ling was conscious when she came to the doctor. At first, Ms. Ling's symptoms were alleviated by medication. But later, Ms. Ling's condition suddenly worsened, and her lungs also became "white lungs", and even appeared in a state of respiratory failure and fell into a coma.

On the morning of December 9, in the intensive care unit of the Second People's Hospital of Foshan City, Ms. Ling, who had been treated with a tranquilizer, relied on a ventilator to maintain her breathing, and the cause of the disease was a redness and swelling in her waist two weeks ago, and now it has scabs, about the size of an adult fingernail.
After the doctor's diagnosis, this was a wound after being bitten by a scrub worm, Ms. Ling was diagnosed with scrub worm disease, and ms. Ling's lung exudation is still serious, liver failure.
Yuan Manjuan, deputy chief physician of the Department of Critical Care Medicine of the Second People's Hospital of Foshan City: We once tried to use high-flow oxygen inhalation, that is, non-invasive assisted deaeration, but the improvement was not obvious, and the time of day progressed to the point where it was necessary to intubate a ventilator, and if acute respiratory distress syndrome was further developed, ECMO extracorporeal membrane lung therapy may be given to her.
The doctor said that if Ms. Ling can reverse through the lung protection strategy within one or two weeks, it will not have much impact on her later life, but if the condition continues to progress, it may be life-threatening at any time. It is understood that scrub worm disease is an acute natural epidemic infectious disease caused by the oriental body of scrub worm disease, which is highly prevalent in the south, mainly transmitted by rodents as the source of infection, and is transmitted by chigger mite bites.
Scrub worm disease is usually caused by being bitten by scrubs in outdoor grass and other places, but Ms. Ling did not go to the outdoor grass, so how did she get sick?
After repeated questioning by the doctor, it was learned that Ms. Ling was a clerk, and there was often a cat of unknown origin near the office to play with Ms. Ling, and the doctor judged that it was likely that the scrub was biting Ms. Ling through this cat. Doctors explain that where there are rats, there may be chigger mites. Ms. Ling's "pet" cat may have been in contact with mice, so it may inadvertently be bitten by chigger mites. However, due to the small size of the chigger mite, it is not easy for people to detect after being bitten.
According to reports, the disease by the chigger mite bites the human body, that is, the spread of a microorganism called Rickettsia, Rickettsia in the human body in a large number of reproduction, resulting in human organ damage, serious cause shock, multi-organ damage, liver function, kidney failure and respiratory failure and so on.
Doctors remind: scrub worm disease is frequent in the south, the public whether it is teasing cats or outdoor activities, need to be vigilant, if there is fever or find obvious eschar on the body, should be treated as soon as possible.
I really didn't expect that "picking up a cat" could cause such a big disaster. In fact, cats are not the hosts of scrub worms, but they will be infected with scrub worm disease when they go around like this. So friends who like to pet cats pay attention, see some stray cats outside, think they are cute and will tease and feed, this is no problem, but be sure to pay attention to hygiene.
