The so-called "see the mountain to find the side light", that is, when shooting mountain views, you should use side light, because the peaks under the side light have a three-dimensional sense. For example, in the picture below (Figure 2), the light shines from the left side of the picture, and the mountain peak presents a good three-dimensional effect.

As for "seeing the reflection of the water", the "water" mentioned here refers to the calm surface of the water. The water surface can reflect the scenery on the opposite bank, put the horizontal line in the middle, symmetrical composition, so that the shooting can make the picture more gorgeous and more interesting. For example, in the picture below (Figure 3), the reflection in the water makes the picture fuller and more charming.

There are three filters that landscape photographers must have, namely the light reducer, the polarizer and the gradient mirror. The light reduction mirror has been introduced in the previous issue and is mainly used to shoot slow door effects.

Polarizers filter out reflections on non-metallic surfaces such as water surfaces, leaves, and glass. At the same time, the polarizer can also make the sky bluer and the white clouds whiter, filter out the chaotic sky light, and make the picture more transparent, such as the following figure (Figure 4).

As for the "gradient mirror", it is mainly used to shoot landscapes with large contrasts in light in the morning and evening. The following figure (Figure 6) as an example, if the normal shooting, the position of the distant sun, exposure, the nearby rock will be dead black; if the near rock exposure, the distant rainbow will be dead white. Therefore, in order to balance the brightness of the bright part and the shadow part, it is necessary to wear a gradient lens in front of the lens.

Of course, with the advancement of digital technology, there have been multiple solutions for HDR, stacking and other functions, and the scenery of excessive contrast between light and dark.

Shooting night scenes often requires a long exposure, and if there are over-lit headlights passing by at this time, leaving two eerie bright lines, it will inevitably destroy the picture, such as the following picture (Figure 8). So avoid the headlights when shooting night scenes.

Of course, photographing the tracks is a different matter. But that's the effect of a higher angle of view, long-range shooting with the rails as the visual center.

As for "the rock should be wet", that is to say, there are most of the mountain stones or exposed rocks in the picture, and the wet state is better than the dry, white, reflective effect. For example, in the picture below (Figure 9), the bottom half of the photo is dry rock, and the effect is very poor.

On the contrary, the picture below (Figure 10), the wet stone, brings a warm visual effect to the picture. The same is true of the highways and trails we often photograph, which are wet and have better visual effects.

Most landscape photos will have horizons and skylines, so where are these two important lines? It is usually placed near the three-point line, on the upper or lower three-point line. For example, the following figure (Fig. 11) shows the content above the horizon, so the horizon is placed near the bottom third of the picture.

Instead, in the image below (Figure 12), the photo focuses on what is below the skyline, so the skyline is placed near the top third of the frame. Special cases are another matter.

In landscape photography, the foreground is a crucial element. The foreground has many functions, such as increasing the sense of space in the picture, balancing the picture, contrasting the explanation, beautifying the picture, guiding the line of sight, balancing the composition, setting off the atmosphere and so on. Before photographing a landscape, observe the scenery first. If there is significant interference in the scene, remove it before shooting. For example, the following figure (Figure 18), the yellow leaf in the lower left corner of the picture, if you take it aside before shooting, the photo effect will be better.
