French fishermen: The number of reissues of fishing permits in the UK is far less than expected and another blockade will be launched

author:China Youth Network

On the evening of December 11, local time, the French Haute-de-France Fisheries Association issued an announcement expressing dissatisfaction with the Announcement by the British and Jersey governments on the same day that they would issue 23 additional fishing permits to French fishermen, and said that they would follow the example of November 26 and launch another blockade action in protest.

Since the end of November, the European Commission has stepped forward directly with the UK to resolve the dispute over insufficient licensing of fishing licences and has clearly set a deadline of 10 December. But so far, about 80 of the fishing permits applied for by French fishermen have not been approved. To this end, the French Haute-de-France Fisheries Association said in the announcement that French fishermen not only believe that the British government is treacherous, but also feel abandoned by the European Commission.

On 26 November, French fishermen, plagued by disputes over fishing rights, launched a blockade at one of the ports in the three regions of Northern France: Brittany, Normandy and Haute-De-France. Especially in the port city of Calais in the Haute-de-France region, not only did 6 fishing boats block the sea entrance of the ferry in the afternoon of the same day, but fishermen drove to block the entrance and exit of freight vehicles through the British and French undersea tunnels, causing hundreds of large trucks to queue up.
