South African studies have shown that the effectiveness of the Pfizer vaccine against Aomi Kerong is only about 23%, but it still prevents severe disease

Bloomberg December 11 news, a laboratory study in South Africa showed that two doses of Pfizer covid-19 vaccine on the prevention of omicron (omicron) symptomatic infection effectiveness is only 22.5%, but still can prevent severe disease.

Researchers at the Africa Health Research Institute released more data from a small study released earlier this week that analyzed plasma samples from 12 participants.

Earlier, South African Health Minister Joe Fahra said on the 10th that preliminary evidence shows that the risk of secondary infection caused by the Omiljun strain may be higher than other "need to pay attention" to the new coronavirus variant strain.

Fahra said that means that for people who have already contracted the new coronavirus, the Olmikron strain may be more likely to re-infect them than other strains. However, he said the researchers need to collect further evidence to make more accurate judgments.

Fahra said it was unclear whether the Omiljun strain was more likely to cause severe illness or death, and despite the recent increase in hospitalizations, it could be due to an increase in the total number of infections. A number of medical professionals in South Africa said they found that most of the people infected with the Ami kerong strain had mild symptoms and could be relieved quickly if treated in time.

Ann Helik Kuche, president of the South African Medical Association, said a few days ago that from her experience, people infected with the Omikerong strain often have symptoms such as headaches, body or throat pain, and generally do not lose their sense of taste and smell, nor do they need oxygen. Infected people who are not vaccinated usually have more severe symptoms, such as feeling extreme fatigue.

On December 10, local time, according to the South African Ministry of Health, there were 19,018 new confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia in South Africa on the same day, with a cumulative 3112469 confirmed cases; 20 new deaths on the same day, with a cumulative death of 90,080 cases; and 2878855 cumulative cures.
