General Xu Shiyou's fighting career is inseparable from Shandong, and he fought in Shandong for 16 years, including 8 years in Jiaodong. As soon as Xu Shiyou arrived in Jiaodong, he fought the surrender faction and lost his nerve.
In the autumn of 1939, Xu Shiyou, who was the deputy brigade commander of the 386th Brigade, was transferred to the North China Party School to study, and soon after, he was appointed as the commander of the 3rd Brigade of the Shandong Column. On the shores of the Bohai Sea and the banks of the Qing River, Xu Shiyou commanded the Eighth Route Army and the local anti-Japanese armed forces to wage fierce struggles against the Japanese, pseudo-japanese, and stubborn.
Spring 1941. The second anti-communist upsurge launched by the pro-Japanese capitulationists of the Kuomintang swept throughout the country. In Jiaodong, when the surrender factions and diehards of all sizes took advantage of the Japanese Kou to sweep up our base areas, they organized the so-called "Anti-Eighth Coalition Army" and invaded the East China Sea area and the Kunming Mountains. Xu Shiyou was ordered to lead the Qinghe Independent Regiment into Jiaodong and set up an anti-surrender command, with Xu Shiyou as the commander, to carry out the anti-surrender campaign.
Xu Shiyou's first battle in Jiaodong was a surprise attack on Asan. Asan was originally the heart of our party's Jiaodong anti-Japanese base area, but due to the lack of experience in military struggle in the local party organization, it was taken by Cai Jinkang (nicknamed Cai Baozi), the second person of the Jiaodong surrender faction and the commissioner of the 9th special district of the Kuomintang, thus cutting off the connection between the base areas of the East China Sea and the West Sea. Xu Shiyou took cai Jinkang and recaptured Asan.
On March 15, 1941, the Jiaodong District Party Committee and the Anti-Surrender Headquarters held a cadre mobilization meeting in Wujia Village, Penglai County, and Xu Shiyou made his first "appearance" after entering Jiaodong.
Xu Shiyou said at the mobilization meeting:
"I came to Jiaodong to fight, Taiping I don't come, I don't come to Taiping!" Chiang Kai-shek created the bloody Anhui Incident, and the Jiaodong surrender faction cooperated with the Japanese army to come to us every day. If we do not fight, there is no way out, and if we do not fight, we will not be able to resist to the end. We must be hard bones, resolutely fight out, crush the attack of the surrender faction, and create a new situation in Jiaodong! ”
Xu Shiyou did things, acted vigorously, held meetings during the day, and began fighting at night.
Xu Shiyou commanded the 5th Brigade, the 1st Independent Regiment of Qinghe, and the 5th Detachment, divided into three routes, and attacked eastward from under the Aigu Mountains on the border of Penglai and Qixia according to the predetermined plan.
On the morning of the 16th, the three-way army appeared at the same time at the foot of Mount Asan where Cai Jinkang was stationed. The 13th Regiment of the Middle Route Army surrounded the Dayang family on the west side of the Tooth Mountain with a sudden move, and before the enemy could deploy a battalion, it was annihilated by our army and the battalion commander was also killed. The 14th Regiment on the right road descended from Zhangjia and Tangjiapo one after another, directly approaching the front and back of DiaoYa, where Cai Jinkang's headquarters was located. The Left Road Qinghe Independent Regiment also surrounded the north stop behind Asan.
On the 17th, before the 14th Regiment captured Diao Cliff, the 13th Regiment defeated the main enemy force of the counterattack and attacked behind the Diao Cliff with the 14th Regiment. The battle went very smoothly, and by the afternoon of the 18th, more than 1,800 people of Cai Bu were annihilated by our army, and Cai Jinkang was wounded and fled. Asan returned to the Hands of the Eighth Route Army and the people.
In only 3 days, Xu Shiyou eliminated Cai Jinkang, the second pseudo-"commander", and the "Anti-Eighth Coalition Army" that attacked Kuncheng Mountain was frightened and retreated. This battle not only dealt a heavy blow to the surrender faction in Jiaodong, but also enabled the commanders and fighters of the Jiaodong Anti-Japanese Armed Forces to see clearly the strength of the Communist Eighth Route Army, and greatly enhanced their courage and confidence in defeating the enemy.
After the liberation of Asan, Xu Shiyou did not stop and marched south, eliminating the main force of Zhao Baoyuan, the largest surrender faction in Jiaodong. After 5 months of anti-surrender operations, the anti-Japanese situation in Jiaodong was completely renewed.
