Rainy night

Text/North Island

When puddles break the night

Shake a new leaf

Like shaking its own child to sleep

When the lights string up raindrops

Embellishes over your shoulders

Flashing light, it rolled to the ground again

You say, no

The tone is so firm

But the smile reveals the secret of the heart

Low dark clouds with damp palms

Rub your hair

Rubbing in the scent of the flowers and my scalding breath

The elongated figure of the street lamp

Connecting every intersection, connecting every dream

Catching the mystery of our joy with the net

The bitterness of the past condensed into tears

Wet your handkerchief

Forgotten in a dark doorway

Even tomorrow morning

Muzzles and bloody sun

Let me surrender youth, freedom and pen

I will never hand over this night

I will never hand you over

Let the wall glide my lips

Let the iron bars divide my sky

As long as the heart is beating, there are tides of blood

And your smile will be printed on the red moon

Every night it rises in front of my little window

Awaken memories

One of the biggest characteristics of Kitajima's obscure poetry is that it uses critical consciousness and sense of distress as the cool tone of the lyrical core, replacing the optimism and enthusiasm of previous poetry. For example, the poem "Rainy Night" is a typical love poem, but because Kitajima began to sing in the tense socio-political environment of the early 70s, he always felt a kind of loneliness and heaviness, as if there was an infinite darkness enveloping him. Therefore, even in the wonderful world of love poetry, the expression of kitajima always makes us feel an invisible tension and pressure. Therefore, the love of "Rainy Night" is destined to be a heavy love, a love of joy and sorrow.

The prologue to the poem begins—when the night breaks in a puddle / Shakes a new leaf / Sleeps like a child of his own. This is both the background of the story and the beginning of the story. "A new leaf" shaken by a broken night is an image with metaphorical symbolism. It implies that love happens on a rainy night. The elongated figure of the street lamp / connecting every intersection, connecting every climbing / capturing our joyful mystery with the net. The poet uses the pen very moderately, not excessively venting the emotions of love, but using time and space transformation, writing from the present to the distance, from oneself to others, from the individual to the society, and finally back to "our joy". Reveling in the great joy of love, the pain disappears, and the ugly world seems to cease to exist. Past events condensed into tears/Wet your handkerchief/Forgotten in a dark doorway. Suffering is temporarily "forgotten", and the emotion of joy reaches its climax. However, in the heat of this climax to the climax, the emotions took a sharp turn: even if tomorrow was early in / Muzzle of gun and bloody sun / Let me spend my freedom, youth and pen / I would never hand over this night. The poet wanted to be intoxicated with the happiness of love all the time, but reason told him that that sinful world still existed, and perhaps it was now peeping into their love, causing him to wake up suddenly in great joy. Although the poet writes "even if..." in a hypothetical tone, this background exists. It is like this rainy night, a huge net that envelops heaven and earth, shrouding "me" and "you". So the danger is there, along with what can happen. Poetry is branded with a particular era. This is one of the characteristics of poet writing.
