The suspect, named Khaled Aedh Alotaibi, was reportedly arrested at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport when he was about to board a flight to riyadh, the Saudi capital. He was a member of the Royal Saudi Guard and was one of more than a dozen people the U.S. government announced sanctions after Khashoggi's murder.

French media said Khaled Aedh Alotaibi was traveling under his own name at the time. His detention is based on an arrest warrant issued by Turkey.

However, the Saudi Embassy in Paris issued a statement on Twitter on the 7th, saying that the arrest was "recognized by the wrong person", adding that those convicted are currently serving sentences in Saudi Arabia. "The Saudi embassy wants him to be released immediately," the statement said.

It is reported that Khashoggi was killed before the "Washington Post" and other media contributors, on October 2, 2018 after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, was killed. On October 25 of the same year, Saudi prosecutors announced Khashoggi's death by murder, and in September 2020, the final verdict of the people involved was announced, including five people sentenced to 20 years in prison, 1 person sentenced to 10 years in prison, and 2 people sentenced to 7 years in prison. Because the names of the defendants were not made public, the trial was accused of lack of transparency.
