author:China Youth Network

NBC reported on December 3 local time that drinking water in a well near Pearl Harbor in Hawaii detected oil components.

Some residents who had drunk contaminated water reported the incident after developing symptoms such as nausea, and Blake Converse, deputy commander of the Pacific Fleet, said in an online video event on the evening of the 2nd local time that the Navy had "quite conclusive indications that there are volatile petroleum components in the Red Hill wells."

The well is known to provide water to about 93,000 residents near Pearl Harbor. Hawaii's Department of Health advises residents who rely on water from Hongshan Well to stop using water for "drinking, cooking, or cleaning their mouths," and that people who find a "fuel-like smell" in the water should also avoid using it for bathing, dishwashing, laundry, and other purposes.

Hawaii's Health Department said it has received more than 175 complaints about the issue so far. (CCTV reporter Xu Tao)
