When going to work in the morning, I am often attracted by some scenes: some children who go to school go to school under the leadership of grandpa or grandma, and the children walk free-handed, leisurely and smiling; grandpa or grandma carrying a school bag on their shoulders, carrying a small bag containing school supplies in one hand, and holding the children in the other, which is also a face of kindness and happiness. Whenever I see this, I can't help but think of my school career, especially my high school years.
I went to high school at the end of the 1970s, a period of great changes in education, just after the resumption of the college entrance examination, people's educational qualifications need to pass the exam to obtain, no longer based on family composition history and other factors to get the qualification to go to high school or college. I was able to go to high school only after passing the exam, otherwise, at that time, my "rightist" son would not have been able to go to high school. Despite the wash of decades of wind and rain, the course of two years of high school life still leaves only a deep memory in the mind, which cannot be forgotten for a long time.
The road is hard. My high school was in Huangmei County No. 4 Middle School, from home to school there are dozens of miles of mountain roads, to school, all by foot, each time from home to school to walk three or four hours of mountain road, we go home once a week, the main task is to go back to get rice, vegetables and a little pocket money. It wasn't a weekend holiday, but a half-day class on Saturday morning, and they went home after the class.
When school ends on Saturdays, there is a unique scenery around the school. Groups of three or five high school students, most of them with a stick or a small flat shoulder strung with a bag, the bag contained one or two empty vegetable jars, carried on the shoulders, hurriedly walking in the direction of home, a small number of better conditions, living near the school on bicycles, with some ostentatious looks, the wind like the wind passed by the walking classmates.
The way home is really difficult. After a morning of class, the stomach is already hungry, but also empty stomach and then walk for three or four hours of mountain road, that kind of difficulty can be imagined, feel dozens of miles of mountain road like a twenty-five thousand miles long march. Some people may ask, why not get something to eat? You know, at that time, the family only gave us a little pocket money every week, and it had already been used up, so where was the money to buy something to eat? Hungry and anxious, you can only get a raw sweet potato, pluck a radish or something in the farmland along the way according to the different seasons.
Throughout high school, hunger was the strongest feeling. One is the hunger and thirst for knowledge, always want to learn a lot of knowledge, because they want to go to college, hope to jump out of the farm, eat commodity grain. One is the need for food. Perhaps it is the adolescence of the long body, the digestive function is particularly good, perhaps the learning task is heavy, and the most important thing may be that there is no oil and water in the dish, and there is no hunger. Anyway, I always felt empty in my stomach, and the feeling of hunger seemed to invade my entire high school process.
At that time, I could only take about 7 pounds of rice from home every week, but we had to eat 17 meals a week at school, on average, less than half a pound each meal. If it is now, of course enough to eat. However, at that time, we only ate dry rice per meal, almost no vegetables, brought two cans of vegetables from home every week, because we had to eat for a week, fresh vegetables could not be put away, we mainly took pickles or chili sauce, chili sauce with rice was my main meal in high school, I now like to eat chili, probably a habit I developed in high school.
Because of hunger, students are particularly sensitive to the information of eating, every time to the last class before eating, everyone is very much looking forward to the bell ringing early after the class, the most annoying thing is that the teacher drags the class, feeling that it is going to end the class, some impatient students are preparing rice plates and meal tickets in the drawer, and accidentally make a noise of making rice plates, almost at the same time as the teacher announces the end of class, the students sitting at the back door rush out of the classroom with the rice plate, flying to the meal window.
It's a spectacular scene. Between our classrooms and the canteen is a piece of the school's vegetable garden, one per class, each vegetable garden's mound becomes our road to the canteen, because there are only two windows for eating, and there are long queues for each meal, and the students are very anxious in order to be able to line up to the front to fight the rice first, and rush along the vegetable garden in a dozen ways to the window of the rice, just like the soldiers of the army charge at the enemy, but the soldiers charge with guns, and we are charging with rice bowls. If the window for eating is occasionally not on duty to maintain order, the state of the window is very chaotic, some squeezed out of the rice bowl, some squeezed to the ground, the scene is simply unbearable. At this time, big men and some small people always have the advantage, big men are powerful, small people are dexterous, like me who do not stay, generally can only wait and wait for the opportunity.
The most memorable thing is the dinner at the end of each semester in high school. At the end of each semester, the school will give us a benefit, a meal, let everyone eat a meal of rice noodles, rice tube is enough, and no meal tickets. This is the happiest and most satisfying memory to stay in high school.
The teacher said that the rice noodles and rice noodles that will be eaten are the tails of the meals that the students usually save, all of which are free and can be eaten with their stomachs open.
Rice noodles and steamed meat is a famous dish in the hometown, and the smell of the aroma makes the population flow. In fact, the method is also very simple, that is, first the rice is exhausted, cooled, put fennel and other ingredients in the pot and fried until slightly yellow, and then ground into powder with stone grinding, mixed with pork, and then put on ginger and shallots, etc., and then put into the steamer basket to steam.
On the day of the dinner, the students were very happy and happy. Early the desk into a table, consciously combined into a dinner group, ten people a table, the group leader consciously prepared the usual washbasin with the face to prepare to beat rice noodles steamed meat, everyone eagerly waited to go to the canteen to serve meat to eat rice orders, wait until the meat and rice came, there is no pre-dinner speech ceremony, everyone uses eating action to show the youth and vitality of young students, almost at the same time, ten pairs of chopsticks like sharp arrows shot to the meat plate, do not select, clip to the meat to the mouth, in the first few minutes, Each student eats a piece in his mouth, his eyes aim at a piece, and there is still a piece on the chopsticks, and in the end, he eats almost the same, and then makes some selections on the plate, trying to find some black to eat, because most of the black is lean meat. Every time there is a meal, the school is generous, so that everyone eats a round stomach and a mouth full of oil. After eating, we took a strong step, took the quilt and other objects that had slept for a semester, and rushed home, and the semester was over.
High school life, in fact, there are many memorable. For example, in the first semester of high school, the school held a mountaineering and essay competition, and I won two honors, the eighth place in the mountaineering competition, and the essay competition on the theme of the mountaineering competition won the second place in the whole school. This award has always been in my heart, the prize has always been kept in one of my boxes, and then moved many times, this set of political review outlines do not know where to go, what remains is my memories of high school life, words, and love of creation. Also, after the school lights are turned off, we also have to bring our own kerosene lamps, and then learn the persistence for a while; the sadness of occasionally getting sick and lying alone in the dormitory; sometimes the joy after a high score.
