Ensuring and improving the ecological environment of the Changbai Mountains region plays an irreplaceable and important role in the ecological balance and economic and social development of the entire Northeast Region and even Northeast Asia.

In recent years, Changbai Mountain has adhered to ecological protection as the first premise of development, practiced the development concept of "green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains", actively promoted the restoration and protection of the "Shanshui Lintian Lake Grass" system and the source treatment of the Songhua River, the river chief system and ecological protection volunteer actions, further built a solid ecological foundation barrier, and attracted environmental indicator animals and internationally endangered animals, the Chinese Autumn Sand Duck, to settle in the downtown area for the first time.

In order to protect this "living fossil in the water and giant panda in birds", in 2017, Changbaishan set up a volunteer service team to protect the Chinese Autumn Sand Duck, and actively carried out the "Protect Chinese Autumn Sand Duck Volunteer in Action" volunteer service project under the guidance of wildlife conservation experts.

At present, there are 97 online registered volunteer service organizations in the district, with 3552 volunteers. Through sparing no effort to volunteer to protect the duck, the number of Chinese autumn sand ducks in the region has increased from less than 100 to more than 300.

It is believed that under the protection of volunteers, more and more Chinese autumn sand ducks will wander in the forest valley of Changbai Mountain.
