The British Army unveiled new elite units capable of fighting on four different fronts.

Of the four battalions of the 1,200-strong Ranger Regiment, one battalion will focus on emerging conflicts in Eastern Europe.

Two of the battalions will be sent to Africa and the fourth battalion will be sent to the Middle East.

Each battalion's 300 soldiers were selected from the entire Army, and their military skills and emotional intelligence were based on the strong relationships they had to build with local troops.

Soldiers will be required to learn a foreign language — if they don't speak a foreign language — so they can talk to allies in their native language.

These battalions will also be "rank-heavy" and will consist of more experienced and mature soldiers.

Rangers will wear new uniforms, new badges and berets, and carry state-of-the-art weapons.

Crucially, they will be expected to fight alongside local troops, not just assist them.

The Ranger's first mission is expected to begin in early 2022. Their operations will be monitored by Parliament.

Commando Commander Brigadier General Gus Fair said: "We are a force that can operate with our partners, not just assist and support them."

"We will work and fight on the most extreme edges of the front line.

"Rangers will be sent to countries that are unstable and threatened by violent extremist organizations.

The focus, he said, was on cooperation and bringing in military assets and experts that might otherwise not be available to the partner country.

"The Ranger's motto is 'do whatever it takes,' and rightly so, because we will be highly versatile and diverse."

The Ranger's cap badge, worn on a cannon copper grey beret, is topped with a peregrine falcon, a bird known for its speed, ability to fight long distances, and loyalty to its companions—all characteristics of the Ranger.

The Rangers will be equipped with drones — including the nearly undetectable 6-inch Black Hornet — and a multi-barrel rocket system capable of launching 12 rockets up to 93 miles.

The three-man Land Rover convoy will include a machine gunner armed with a Browning heavy machine gun and can also call the Apache gunship for support.

In addition to linguists, the commandos will recruit intelligence specialists, explosive ordnance disposal specialists and trained troops to gather evidence from crime scenes in order to refer cases to international criminals.

Potential Rangers will be expected to pass exhaustive electives and demonstrate their intelligence and emotional intelligence.

However, the introduction of Ranger regiments could adversely affect the infantry branch of the Army, as some regiments are being "hollowed out" to provide volunteers to the troops.

The infantry is also expected to bear the brunt of the army's downsizing announced today.

However, the cuts to the Army will not be as severe as previously pointed out.
