On November 9, Haiyang City in Yantai, Shandong Province, located on the Jiaodong Peninsula, entered the heating season. At that time, when the needle pointed to 0, the nuclear energy heating mode in haiyang city was officially launched, with a heating area of 4.5 million square meters. From coal-fired heating to nuclear heating, Haiyang City strives to build a "zero-carbon" heating city and promote clean heating in the northern region in winter.

Heating costs were reduced from 22 yuan per square meter to 21 yuan

From the official establishment of the nuclear energy heating project in December 2018, to the realization of nuclear energy heating in the 700,000-square-meter community in November 2019, and then to the completion of the "full coverage" of nuclear energy heating in November 2021, in just three years, the Haiyang nuclear heating project has completed the design planning, implementation and improvement. This year, haiyang city's nuclear energy heating area has been further expanded, achieving full coverage of the built-up area, with an area of 4.5 million square meters.

At the end of 2018, the Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant was put into commercial operation, producing a steady stream of clean electricity. Can "clean electricity" produce "clean heat"? Liu Hongtao, secretary of the Haiyang Municipal Party Committee, introduced that Haiyang City focused on tapping the potential of nuclear power itself, and after preliminary expert demonstration, formally signed a contract with Shandong Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. to jointly launch a nuclear energy heating project. In July 2019, the first phase of Haiyang Nuclear Energy Heating Project of 700,000 square meters was officially started, and all were completed in September of that year.

With nuclear energy heating, Haiyang's heating costs this year have also declined, and the residential building per square meter has been reduced by 1 yuan compared with previous years, from the original 22 yuan / square meter to 21 yuan / square meter.

Each heating season can reduce CO2 emissions by 180,000 tons

"Nuclear energy heating is to extract steam as a heat source from the second circuit of the nuclear power unit, multi-channel isolation and multi-stage heat exchange through the heat exchange station, and finally transmit the heat to the user through the municipal heating pipe network, this process only has the transfer of heat, there is no water and other media exchange, to ensure that the user heating is clean and safe." In the 2019-2020 heating season, a total of 7,757 users of 700,000 square meters in Haiyang City took the lead in using nuclear energy heating. After a heating season of practical testing, the Shandong Provincial Energy Bureau gave Haiyang nuclear energy heating a "clean, safe, stable and efficient" evaluation, and Haiyang City was also awarded the "Shandong Province Nuclear Energy Comprehensive Development and Utilization Demonstration City".

In the view of Zhao Xin, chairman of Haiyang Haiyuan Energy Co., Ltd., compared with traditional boiler heating, nuclear energy heating has three major advantages: first, the environmental protection effect is remarkable, the heating capacity is greatly improved; the second is the energy saving effect is obvious; the third is the management of scientific norms - according to reports, the local nuclear energy heating first station control system into the smart heat network scheduling and control platform, the nuclear energy heat source, transmission and distribution system and the end user's heating link for parameter monitoring, data analysis and intelligent control, while according to weather changes, timely temperature regulation, Realize smart heating, scientific heating and stable heating.

According to reports, Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 replaced Haiyang 12 coal-fired boilers, each heating season can save 100,000 tons of coal, reduce carbon dioxide emissions of 180,000 tons, sulfur dioxide 1188 tons, nitrogen oxides 1123 tons, heat 1.3 million gijoules, will vigorously improve the heating season of Haiyang City atmospheric environment and marine ecological environment.

In the long term, it will have 200 million square meters of heating capacity

Units 1 and 2 of the first phase of the Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant Project were put into commercial operation in October 2018 and January 2019 respectively. Focusing on the construction of nuclear power projects, Haiyang will cultivate nuclear power equipment manufacturing and comprehensive utilization of nuclear energy as a strategic emerging industry, and develop industrial projects such as nuclear energy heating, seawater desalination, hydrogen production, and energy storage.

According to reports, while ensuring the "zero carbon" heating of the entire urban area of Haiyang, the two nuclear power units can also generate 58 million kWh of electricity per day, which can meet the domestic electricity needs of all residents in Qingdao, Yantai and Weihai, and effectively guarantee the regional power supply. In the future, Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant will have a heating capacity of 200 million square meters, providing a strong clean energy guarantee for the integration of Jiaodong Economic Circle.

"We will vigorously develop new clean energy formats, reshape the new pattern of Haiyang economy, and contribute to haiyang's strength to the province and even the whole country's 'carbon peak and carbon neutrality'." Liu Hongtao said.

In the next step, Haiyang will deepen cooperation with, CNNC, Huaneng and other enterprises, vigorously promote clean energy projects such as nuclear energy heating, offshore wind power, and seawater desalination, introduce green and low-carbon high-end equipment, new materials, big data and other emerging industries, and comprehensively develop green buildings and green transportation.
