Niutianyang is located in the western suburbs of Shantou City. On Saturday, the weather was clear, and I drove from the East Side to go there with my family.
After arriving at Yunpu, turn around from Nan nan Road, drive straight to the "Muzai" Garden in Tiangang Community, and then turn left onto the embankment. The embankment road is still quite wide, and there is no problem with the car, and the previous section is paved with cement, which is smooth, and the latter section is a dirt road with some potholes, but it is still good to walk. We drove all the way to the bend at the exit of the Meixi River on the West Causeway, where we took photos and watched people fishing. On the way back, I watched the heron birds in the only mangrove place in the levee, probably talking a little louder when I approached, and surprisingly a large group of people flew up, which was really spectacular. In addition, the construction of the Western Extension of Niutianyang Expressway and Jinsha West Road is in full swing.
At noon, we went to a fishing village near the Tiangang community to eat, and we often heard people say "go to Niutian to eat crabs", and today we also came to try it.
Niutianyang was once a beach in Shantou's inner harbor, flooding at high tide and drying out when tide receded. In 1962, the reclamation area of more than 20,000 mu was reclaimed, originally a desolate beach, and turned into a large-scale military reclamation farm full of hope and vitality. However, on July 28, 1969, a tragic event occurred that shocked China and foreign countries, and Typhoon No. 6903, which reached a strength of 18, (code name: Viona) attacked Niu Tianyang head-on, sacrificing many officers and soldiers and students who fought against the typhoon. Today, the "July 28" Martyrs' Monument stands on a hill in the Liantang troop camp in the north of the farm.
