Beijing, November 19 (China News Service) -- In response to the Recent Glasgow Joint Declaration on Strengthening Climate Action in the 2020s (hereinafter referred to as the "Joint Declaration") recently issued during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, john Kerry, the US President's special envoy for climate issues pointed out at the 2021 Innovation Economy Forum on the 19th that it is of great significance that the two countries can reach a "Joint Declaration".

John Kerry noted that the Joint Declaration not only provides a blueprint for actions between the two countries in areas such as carbon dioxide and methane, but also proposes that the two countries will establish a joint working group. He hoped that these initiatives would enhance communication between the two sides on different choices and issues, and hoped that cooperation between the two sides would play an important role in strengthening data sharing and sharing solutions. At the same time, the two leaderships can also have more important dialogues.

He noted that the Joint Declaration provides concrete solutions and dates for action on climate issues for the two countries.

In the Joint Declaration, both countries have proposed their own action plans, such as in reducing carbon dioxide emissions, the United States set a target of 100% zero-carbon pollution electricity by 2035, and China will gradually reduce coal consumption during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period and do its best to accelerate this work. The two countries also agreed to cooperate in areas such as supporting policies that effectively integrate high-proportion, low-cost, intermittent renewable energy sources, and energy efficiency policies and standards to reduce electricity waste.

He said that the results achieved during the COP26 meeting are the result of multi-party efforts, and it is necessary to further implement the commitments into action through the investment of funds and related resources to achieve the "net zero" emission target as soon as possible. He said that in the context of countries have successively proposed emission reduction targets, the global emission reduction task is becoming clearer, "the market is already there, whether the government does it or not, this will be a global revolution."

"I want to be thankful that countries have done a lot in Glasgow that will help make actions and decisions a reality over the next decade." Everyone should do their best to achieve their emissions reduction goals. John Kerry said. (End)
