It is not that literati painting does not need to be sketched, it is that the method of sketching is more extensive, and all experiences that are close to life and survival emotions can be attributed to the name of "sketching", including: reading, thinking, writing, traveling, visiting, lonely travel, meditation, analogy, memory... They are all looking at the characteristics of things, looking for materials for painting images, waiting for opportunities to find expressions that may produce interest in painting in the most ordinary things around them. As one Western modernist musician put it: "Whether a person is truly a creator can be measured by his ability to find noteworthy content in the most ordinary and mundane things around him." ”
Ming Dong Qichang's "Purpose of Painting" said that the "qi rhyme" of painting cannot be learned, it is the "heavenly gift" given to the painter by god, but there is a way to make up for the innate deficiency, that is, "read thousands of books, travel thousands of miles." "Empty the world in the heart, construct the landscape in the chest, and then, "Write it by hand, all for the landscape to convey the gods." Dong Qichang's argument probably came from Du Fu's "reading ten thousand volumes, writing like a god" in the next book.
In short, the road is complementary to reading, reading is a static idea, the road is a dynamic capture, the knowledge in the book is limited, and only in the middle of the road can the eyes and ears make up for its shortcomings.
The painter's paintings only see the "hand" of the painter, and do not see the pouring out of the "heart". Paintings that are "vivid and vivid" should be for the "hands" and for the "heart".
