The "Bird of Myth" Chinese Crested Tern | Central European Biodiversity 2021

author:Decode The European KeystoEurope

The Chinese crested tern was once widely considered extinct before 2000. They are a seabird of the genus Plover, Gull family, crested tern genus, also known as the black-billed crested tern, often inhabiting coasts and islands, and is the rarest species of birds in the gull family.

Although they are not large, they are elegant in posture and have smooth body lines. A body of white feathers, the back and wings are stained with light gray, just like ink paintings. Because of the rarity of the number, it is difficult to find its traces, and it always gives people a sense of mystery, so the Chinese crested tern is also called "the bird of mythology" by experts.
