Two years later, An Xiangshu returned to her hometown and paid back all the money she owed to the villagers. Then she chose to stay in the village again to serve the villagers. Soon, An Xiangshu was elected secretary of the village branch, and her kindness and good qualities prompted her to take care of the left-behind elderly as part of her job.
Selfless care for the elderly left behind
Left-behind elderly people are vulnerable to danger, especially in the winter during the peak of elderly disease attacks. In order to ensure the safety of the elderly, An Xiangshu decided to walk around the village every morning and evening, greeting and talking to the left-behind elderly people who needed to be cared for.
However, An Xiangshu soon found that this would not work, because there were too many left-behind elderly people, and if they did so, there would be not enough time to visit every left-behind elderly person. So An Xiangshu came up with a way to judge whether the old people were safe by seeing whether the chimney was smoking, whether there were footprints in front of the door, and whether the snow was cleaned. During the 2010 flood, An Xiangshu was not at ease that the old man was at home, so she took the old man and her granddaughter to her home to take care of her.
