In response to US Secretary of State Blinken's Taiwan-related remarks, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin responded at a regular news conference held today that the relevant remarks of the US side disregard the facts and also violate international law. Any attempt to support "Taiwan independence" and split and go against the tide of history will end in failure.
According to reports, US Secretary of State Blinken said in an interview a few days ago that the United States has a commitment to ensure that Taiwan has the ability to defend itself, and said that many countries regard the unilateral use of force to undermine the status quo as a major threat to peace and security. A reporter asked a question to the spokesperson at the Foreign Ministry's regular press conference on this. Wang Wenbin said that the one-China principle and the three Sino-US joint communiques are the basis for China and the United States to establish diplomatic relations and develop the healthy development of bilateral relations. The "Taiwan Relations Act" unilaterally enacted by the United States violates the commitments made by the US side in the three Sino-US joint communiques and puts the internal law of the United States above international obligations, which is illegal and invalid. China will never allow the US side to infringe on China's sovereignty or interfere in China's internal affairs under any pretext. The US side should scrupulously abide by the one-China principle and the stipulations of the three Sino-US joint communiques with practical actions, be cautious in words and deeds, and stop sending any wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" forces. Wang Wenbin stressed: There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is a part of China. This is both a historical and legal fact that cannot be changed, and a status quo that cannot be challenged. The one-China principle is a universally recognized norm governing international relations and the universal consensus of the international community. General Assembly Resolution 2758 not only recognized the representatives of the Government of the People's Republic of China as "China's sole legitimate representatives in the United Nations organization", but also expelled "chiang kai-shek's representatives" from "seats at the United Nations". In the course of the consultations on the resolution, the motions of the United States and a few other countries attempting to engage in "double recognition" and create "two Chinas" were not adopted, and Taiwan's representation in the United Nations was completely denied. The relevant documents of the United Nations clearly state that "the United Nations believes that Taiwan has no independent status as a province of China" and that "the Taiwan authorities do not enjoy any form of government status".
Wang Wenbin pointed out that there are 180 countries in the world that recognize and support the one-China principle, the pattern of the international community adhering to the one-China principle is as solid as a rock, and China's reunification is an irresistible historical trend. The Taiwan authorities and a small number of "Taiwan independence" separatist forces have tried to negate and challenge the one-China principle and expand the space for "Taiwan independence" activities; this is the root cause of the current tension in the Taiwan Strait and has been resolutely opposed by the Chinese Government and the international community. Any act that challenges the one-China principle and resists the general trend of China's reunification will be resolutely thwarted. Any attempt to support "Taiwan independence" and split and go against the tide of history will end in failure.
