On November 12, a large number of migrants on the Polish border are starving and freezing, and a small eastern town has set up a rescue center at a local fire station to provide accommodation, food and drinking water for migrants.
According to Reuters reported on the 11th, the people of Micarovo Town decided to help immigrants. A staff member at the rescue center, speaking on condition of anonymity, said an Iraqi and a Syrian had been at the fire station for two nights. The staff member said: "I believe this has a very deep symbolic significance, showing that this place is friendly to immigrants and that the people here want to help. ”
Another staff member said the town of Mikalovo had received donations of food and other supplies from all over Poland and even abroad. Volunteers from all over Poland are setting up another aid centre in one school. For now, most migrants in the border areas are still enduring cold weather. Poland said at least seven migrants had died.
Recently, the refugee crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border has been escalating. Some 3,000 to 4,000 refugees are currently on the Belarusian side of the border, and at least 10,000 more are also waiting for the right moment to enter Poland. The Polish Ministry of Defense has deployed 12,000 troops in the border area to deter refugees trying to break through the barbed wire. (Overseas Network Li Fang)
