Maggie Jiang: I've always been "rebellious" in music.

Jiang Meiqi said that she is often misunderstood: "The face is very smelly, cool, very dragging"

Talk about the song road: sing love songs but not just love songs

Speaking of Jiang Meiqi, people can always think of a love song for the first time. "That year's love letters", "Passers-by", "Remembering"... The song is mournful and moving.

The masterpiece "Dear Why You're Not Around" has been launched for 20 years, which not only has a lasting vitality and is not fading, but also is regarded as a "must-hear track for long-distance lovers". Now, on the stage of the third season of "Flowing Songs" to pay tribute to her own classic work, Jiang Meiqi said that with the enrichment of life opportunities, she also has a broader understanding and understanding of this song beyond the scope of love.

Yangcheng Evening News: "Dear Why Aren't You Around" can be regarded as a song that mainland fans are most familiar with you, does this song have any special significance for you?

Maggie Jiang: This song is actually quite important to my musical journey. My first album, "I Love Faye Wong," was a little more "heavy" and more lyrical rock. Later, "How I Envy You" opened the road of my love songs, until I sang "Dear Why You Are Not Around Me", so that more people knew and understood me.

Yangcheng Evening News: This song was launched in 2001, this year just turned 20th anniversary, singing now and singing before, will you have a different feeling?

Maggie Jiang: Before, I was singing this song more about love. In fact, when I entered the studio to record this song, I just fell out of love, so I felt very good about recording it. Now, after experiencing the ups and downs of life, when I interpret this song, I have a lot more associations about family affection in it, and I will project on my father - he suddenly left me with a sudden illness, and I would sing and remember the memories of being with him. Therefore, I think this song is quite broad, not only love, friendship, family affection can be projected in it.

Yangcheng Evening News: The theme of this issue of "Flowing Songs" is "All the Way with You", how do you understand this "you"?

Maggie Jiang: I think fans, family, and friends are almost all included. It's not easy to stick to 20 years of doing what you like, and it's even harder for fans to support a singer for more than 20 years.

My singing career has been interrupted quite a few times, because of contract problems, company restructuring, or returning to the family. I have been interrupted, but I can continue to start over, in this process, the support and companionship of "die-hard fans" really give me a lot of strength, of course, my family also gave me a lot of support, which is also one of my biggest motivations.

Yangcheng Evening News: This time recording "Flowing Song", you reunited with Meng Huiyuan, who is also a "treasure singer", and shared the stage with Lin Zhixuan, and also cooperated with Huang Pinyuan on "Beautiful Mythology", how does the stage feel?

Jiang Meiqi: Although I have met many times with Zhi Xuan Ge and Pin Yuan Ge in the event occasion before, it is the first time that they have performed together on the stage. During the rehearsal, singing with Pin Yuan ge made me feel like a dream come true, and when I was in school, I often listened to his songs, and I didn't expect to be able to cooperate now. I am also very happy to see Meng Huiyuan, participating in "Who is the Treasure Singer" makes us good friends, we have a common WeChat group. Her ability to interpret music, I think is beyond her age, the mood is quite full, her bass is also very good, and I am looking forward to her next new works.

Speaking of transformation: I used to be a bit of a "glass heart"

At present, Jiang Meiqi is busy preparing for her first concert tour in the mainland in more than 20 years since her debut, and she is eager to "meet different fans in different cities and have different memories." Not only that, she rarely appeared on variety shows, participated in many variety shows such as "Who is the Treasure Singer" and "Flowing Song", and moved from Taipei to Beijing to live, she said: "I think 2021 is a year for me to break through myself. ”

Yangcheng Evening News: Becoming a "love song spokesperson" in the eyes of fans, will it bring you trouble or pride?

Maggie Jiang: I think me and love songs are a kind of mutual choice, it does make more people know me, and maybe my voice characteristics or interpretation will make love songs feel more. I don't reject this evaluation, but I don't deny my other musical works, which are actually very broad. I love soft rock things in my heart, and every album I put my own music in it. I still strike a balance between my own preferences and the acceptance of the market. In fact, I've always been "rebellious" musically, and my last album, The Mask, even contained some heavy rock elements. The "self-breakthrough" thing has always existed in my music.

Yangcheng Evening News: Singers who have experienced the traditional record era often have "sales anxiety", and now this indicator seems to be blurred. What kind of mentality do you have to make music today?

Maggie Jiang: I'm still quite comfortable making music now. I used to be very concerned about sales, now making music will be more relaxed, I mean "easy" is relaxed mood, you will not have too much digital pressure, I think when you make music with your heart and comfortable, others feel, naturally will gather strength to support you, just sincerely express their feelings.

Yangcheng Evening News: Some of the evaluations that I once minded, such as "singers are not red" and "not beautiful enough", are you relieved now?

Maggie Jiang: In the past, I would really be hurt by these evaluations, and I would feel really bad because of it. But now I am more fortunate that I have left some works that everyone is familiar with, can be remembered, and can accompany everyone to move everyone. I think that's the duty of being a singer, and I'm here to do it. "People are not red" and "drift is not beautiful" I don't care so much now, I am more concerned about whether I can continue to have new works to move everyone. For the role of the singer, it is the most important thing for the musical work to stay.

Yangcheng Evening News: You once said that "time is running, we have to try to keep up", do you often have this sense of urgency in your heart to "run up"?

Maggie Jiang: Not a sense of urgency, but a motivation to move forward. When I see some young musicians who are very hard working, it reminds me of my former self, and the heart and motivation to participate in singing competitions and make a debut when I was young is back. It's a great feeling.

Current Status: Moving to Beijing to explore new growth and energy

In 2015, Jiang Meiqi married and had children with Lin Zhenyi, who is also a musician. Since then, Jiang Meiqi has faded out of the singing world for nearly 3 years in order to concentrate on accompanying her children's growth. Today, she has come to Beijing alone to live, learning Beijing films, child sounds, taking the subway to visit affordable hypermarkets, and often taking Vlogs to share life with fans, and began to try to practice dance and boxing.

She used to think of herself as "social fear", and she slowly learned to relax and accept herself. And all these changes, she believes, "not only from the warmth of the family, the support of the lover, but also from the growth and energy of her own heart."

Yangcheng Evening News: Moving from Taipei to Beijing, how are you living now?

Maggie Jiang: I found that I still have a lot of friends in Beijing, and I don't feel lonely. Life here is convenient and comfortable, and I often ride my bike to where I want to go, to explore and feel the city. In fact, I am a very adaptable person, and I may have grown up compared to before. The only thing I felt was that I couldn't adapt to it was that my son wasn't around, and my family wasn't around. So I talk to them every day on video.

Yangcheng Evening News: How long have you been separated from your children and haven't seen each other?

Maggie Jiang: This time is the longest, it has been 4 months. At the end of March, I went to Changsha to record the video, and then to Beijing, and I am afraid that there is still a long time to go. Originally, the family also wanted to come together, but because of the epidemic situation, there was no way, so I looked at the situation in the second half of the year.

Yangcheng Evening News: As a mother, how do you combat this anxiety about separation?

Maggie Jiang: My husband is really my strong needle, he takes good care of his children and family, although he is also very busy at work, meeting with employees every day on the Internet. I often say that it is not easy to be the other half of an artist, and there are many things to face, bear and sacrifice, but my husband has always been very supportive of me. And, musically, as a music producer, he not only gave me the music director for my concerts, but also gave me a lot of help and ideas. We're pretty complementary, and I'm really grateful.

Yangcheng Evening News: My son Mu mu will soon turn 6 years old, what kind of child is he? What did you gain from growing up with him?

Maggie Jiang: In terms of interpersonal communication, my son is much better than me. He is a very talkative person and loves to chat. And the age group of the people he chats with is very wide, as small as his sister who is younger than him, to the elderly and the elders, he can talk well and happily.

I want to learn from him about this, and it is a very important thing to express myself. I used to put a lot of things in my heart and didn't communicate, so I was often misunderstood, said "face is smelly, cool, very dragged", think I am not easy to approach. But that may be because I am afraid to communicate with others to give my protective colors, and after I really get acquainted, everyone will find that my true personality is very different from the external appearance.

Yangcheng Evening News: Please use three keywords to describe your current living state?

Maggie Jiang: Learning, comfort and thoughts. "Comfortable" is because I feel that the current state of life is not the same as before, I can get rid of the role of wife and mother, and have more time alone to do what I want to do. "Learning" means coming back to the stage, a lot of things that are new and curious to me, and I absorb new stimuli, including new musical ideas. "Missing" is also inevitable, although I feel free, I still miss my family and I want to hug my son. This is where I am now.
