Morphologically, medium-sized birds with a body length of 22 to 25 cm. The male has a grey-brown head, neck and back; has narrow rust-red eyebrow lines; the wings are brownish gray, the flight feathers have light feather margins, and the underwing coverts are orange-red; the throat and chest are rust red, the abdomen is white, with fine markings; the central tail feathers are dark gray, and the outer tail feathers are rusty red. The female is less reddish overall than the male , with whiter eyebrow lines , white chin and throat with black spots , and a tanned thorax with spots. The tips of the upper and lower mouths are nearly black, the base of the lower mouth is yellow, and the feet are grayish brown.
Its living habits inhabit mountains, hilly forests, plain woodlands, sparse forests, forest edges, orchards, and urban gardens, and are often grouped with red-tailed plovers and owls, often mixed with red-tailed plovers and spotted plovers. He forages in under-forest bushes or on the ground, and quickly flies to trees in the face of disturbances, flying short and fast. The main food in spring and summer is insects and other invertebrates, and in winter, plant seeds and fruits are often eaten. Winter migratory birds or traveling birds. Seen at the top of Mount Taishan to the outskirts of the city.
