Bloomberg quoted mainland officials as saying that Hong Kong may clear customs with the Guangdong port in January next year

Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of Hong Kong, pointed out earlier that both the central and SAR governments believe that customs clearance without quarantine is the top priority in Hong Kong at present, and the Hong Kong SAR government is making good progress in discussing customs clearance with the mainland, and hopes to hold a docking meeting with relevant ministries and commissions as soon as possible. Bloomberg today quoted mainland officials as saying that the mainland and THE SAR governments are seeking to reply to the quarantine-free customs clearance of some ports bordering Hong Kong and Guangdong before the Lunar New Year, which means that there may be limited customs clearance with the mainland in January next year.

Bloomberg said the two governments had been discussing customs clearance after the Beijing Winter Olympics on Feb. 20, but the mainland official did not explain why the target date for customs clearance had been brought forward. In response to Bloomberg's inquiry, the SAR Government reiterated that the HKSAR Government is strengthening epidemic prevention measures, creating favorable conditions, and striving to gradually and orderly resume customs clearance and customs clearance in the mainland as soon as possible.

Carrie Lam said earlier that customs clearance needs to be carried out gradually, and quotas will be set, and business needs, visits to the elderly or funerals can be the first to clear customs. It is understood that the SAR government has proposed to the mainland that there will be at least 1,000 quarantine-free customs clearance places per day in the early stage, but there is still no consensus, if all the discussions go smoothly and the epidemic situation is controlled, there is an opportunity to make a decision on the "small customs clearance" in early next month, and it is expected to achieve full customs clearance before the 25th anniversary of next year's return celebration.
