Shallow straits, the end of the world, how many national pains are carried! In 1979, the mainland first advocated the opening of cross-strait exchanges. The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress issued a "Message to Taiwan Compatriots," calling for the implementation of postal navigation as soon as possible, with direct contacts among compatriots, visiting relatives and friends, and visiting exchanges. Under the pressure of strong public opinion, the Taiwan authorities announced in October 1987 that they would open up the policy of some Taiwan compatriots to visit relatives on the mainland.
The incessant flesh-and-blood affection finally melted the solid ice that blocked the strait and broke through the door of cross-strait exchanges that had been closed for 38 years. "History cannot be chosen, but it can be grasped now and the future can be created." Today we want to introduce the Taiwanese artist Ling Feng, who is very familiar to everyone.
After winning the Best Male Singer Award at the 20th Golden Bell Awards in 1985, Ling Feng, a Taiwanese entertainer who was popular on both sides of the strait, suddenly gave up his acting career on the island, broke through layers of barriers, and came to the mainland to shoot the TV program "Eight Thousand Miles of Clouds and Moons" in the first year of the cross-strait visit to relatives, introducing the mainland's customs and customs to the audiences of Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and other places. Recently, our correspondent in Taiwan revisited Ling Feng and listened to him tell his childhood past and the mental journey of filming "Eight Thousand Miles of Clouds and Moons".
Ling Feng was three and a half years old when he followed his parents from Shandong to Taiwan. After arriving in Taiwan, they lived in the village, and their father worked in the 44 Arsenal. My home is on the Songhua River in the northeast, there are forest coal mines, and there are soybean sorghum all over the mountains, and everyone is crying when they end up singing, and I think how adults can cry when they sing and sing?
Young Ling Feng couldn't understand what adults had to cry about singing! It wasn't until he became an adult that he understood that such feelings were called homesickness! Ling Feng said that at that time, adults relied on singing every day to ease their homesickness, but at that time, the two sides of the strait were in a state of hostility, and it was almost impossible to go home.
"My dad ended up dying in Taiwan, and his biggest dream of his life was to go home."
In the spring of 1983, Ling's father, who was suffering from terminal cancer, accompanied by Ling Feng's mother and sister, passed through Tokyo and returned to his hometown in Shandong. In the autumn of that year, Ling's father died of cancer, and he said that when his father was dying, he told him that his family had returned without any regrets. But for Ling Feng, that trip did not accompany his father home but became a regret that could not be erased for a lifetime, thinking of those veterans in the village who washed their faces with tears all night and looked forward to going home, but had not yet returned to their hometown, Ling Feng read what homesickness was, he had the idea of "I must go to the mainland", not only to go back, he also had to do something that no one else had done, to the mainland to shoot a TV series, introduced to the people of Taiwan, in order to solve the strong nostalgia, he said that this is the earliest birth to shoot "Eight Thousand Miles of Road Clouds and Moons" The source of ideas.
"We're going back to our hometown!" Because Mom and Dad tell us the story of our hometown every month, this kind of story gives us an ideal that we have to go back one day and we want to rebuild our home. In fact, "Eight Thousand Miles of Road Clouds and Moons" is a name and a feeling extended by a nationalism called rebuilding the homeland, called the feeling of home and country. ”

In 1985, Ling Feng won the Best Male Singer Award at the 20th Golden Bell Awards in Taiwan, but at the time of his popularity, he unexpectedly changed careers and brewed to shoot the TV series "Eight Thousand Miles of Clouds and Moons" in the mainland. At that time, it was extremely difficult to shoot on the mainland, and it required the approval and support of the mainland. In 1987, the two sides of the strait had not yet opened up, and the only way to contact the mainland government was through third-party channels. Therefore, Ling Feng quietly rushed to Japan and took the opportunity of both sides of the strait to participate in the Tokyo Film Festival to contact the Chinese Embassy in Japan to shoot "Eight Thousand Miles of Clouds and Moons" on the mainland.
Ling Feng said: "The visiting group can give me cover, I sneaked to the embassy and handed them my plan." They said you have to wait, the Central Committee is going to study it, and then I'll wait over there. One did not pay attention and was reported by the Singapore media. ”
After the action was exposed, Song Chuyu, who was then the head of the cultural propaganda department of the Taiwan authorities, informed Ling Feng to return to Taiwan as soon as possible from the perspective of a friend, so as not to be punished. Although Ling Feng immediately returned, he was placed under house arrest as soon as he returned to Taiwan from Japan, and taiwanese newspapers blocked his news, and he was ordered not to appear on television or perform. However, overseas newspapers rushed to report on the incident, and a few months later, the Taiwan authorities, under strong pressure, had to allow him to leave the island.
Ling Feng said that his "Eight Thousand Miles of Road Clouds and Moons" and the 30 years since the opening of cross-strait exchanges were born in the same month of the same year. "Just happened to encounter the opening of cross-strait visits to relatives, so we opened "Eight Thousand Miles of Clouds and Moons" in the name of visiting relatives and filming records."
On November 11, 1987, Ling Feng finally set foot on Beijing Capital International Airport in the name of visiting relatives, began filming the TV series "Eight Thousand Miles of Clouds and Moons", and personally hosted it, becoming the first Taiwanese artist to shoot on the mainland, crashing into the solid ice that had been frozen on both sides of the strait for nearly 40 years.
"Eight Thousand Miles of Clouds and Moon" not only focuses the lens on the majesty and customs of the mountains and rivers of the mainland, but also pays attention to the fate of people, using people as a carrier to record history. Ling Feng spends half of his time shooting on the mainland every year, from Heilongjiang in the north to Yili in Xinjiang in the west, to the border of Yunnan in the south, whether it is Beijing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou, Guilin, Chengdu, Harbin and other big cities, or the Inner Mongolian steppe, and even the "widow village" in Fujian and other remote small villages, all of which have left his footsteps of trekking, and have not stopped.
"These are my tapes, my treasures" Ling Feng cherishes these precious video materials very much, and he keeps the master tapes of all new and old films in the Taipei studio, and for better preservation, the temperature and humidity in the warehouse are constant. Ling Feng said that there were already so many tapes in the storeroom that he couldn't even remember how many boxes there were. In the future, he hopes to build another studio in Kinmen, so that both Kinmen University and Xiamen University can easily use the painstaking efforts they have accumulated over decades.
"There are many works in "Eight Thousand Miles of Clouds and Moons", and even we can give them to use as teaching materials. Even when they were filming, we could give them as consultants, and it was our ideal to be able to share this experience with the younger generation."
This year marks the 30th anniversary of cross-strait exchanges, and Ling Feng said that both director Hou Xiaoxian and he rushed back to Taiwan from the mainland to participate in the commemorative activities at their own expense, and his speech at the scene also once again expressed his heart - "We can share the glory of China's rise, because we are all Chinese."
