After the guava stabilized production and increased income, Lu Wenying took the initiative to apply to the government to get rid of poverty, determined to develop planting and breeding through self-reliance, and walk out of a road to increase income and become rich. Get started with Zero Basics

24 years ago, Lu Wenying married from a remote village in Yunnan to a new village in Ruhunan, where the family lived in a dilapidated tile house. For a long time, she and her husband worked on the meager income to support several children, and the family burden was very heavy, and they were listed as poor households in the village. In 2015, Lu Wenying saw that the guavas planted by her neighbor's cousin were full and popular with the market, so she also had the idea of planting guavas. The guava hanging from the branches of her cousin's house is the hope of family life in Lu Wenying's eyes.

For Lu Wenying, who has never planted guava, although he is energetic, it is difficult at the beginning, such as there are many varieties of guava on the market, and choosing which variety to plant is the first problem to face. Lu Wenying learned from his cousin and the surrounding farmers who planted guava, and then chose to try to grow Taiwan guava according to local climatic conditions, planting environment, market demand and other considerations. Taiwan guava has the characteristics of easy cultivation, early yield, rich nutrition, etc., and is a popular variety in the guava market.

Due to her previous experience as a casual worker in an orchard, as well as studious and industrious, Lu Wenying was soon able to complete the guava planting and garden management with ease. Lu Wenying planted nearly eight acres of Taiwanese guavas, and to increase her income, she also raised chickens in her orchard. "At first, the harvest was very small, but after groping for the way out, the harvest slowly increased." Lu Wenying said that sometimes when she encounters technical problems, she will consult some people with more planting experience and agricultural technicians, and their guidance has helped her solve many problems encountered in planting. Because her husband is working outside, planting guava and taking care of the orchard basically rely on Lu Wenying alone, although it is very hard, but watching the saplings grow strongly, and then growing a small guava, lu Wenying's sense of joy in his heart is becoming more and more full with the growth of the branches of guava.

Work hard to get out of the predicament

Growing good guava is a big step to success, but how to solve the sales problem is the key to generating revenue. Lu Wenying also encountered the dilemma of slow sales.

"Guava is in full bloom every June, and it's also the hardest time to sell." Lu Wenying said that with the expansion of guava planting area in recent years, competition in the sales market is also intensifying. She recalls the month of June of the year she first started growing guava, when the fruit had been picked and she couldn't find a boss to buy it, which made her anxious. "A batch of picking can reach several thousand catties, coupled with a limited shelf life, if not sold in time, it will soon rot and deteriorate." In a hurry, Lu Wenying could only visit one orchard after another, inquire about the situation everywhere, and finally with the help of other enthusiastic fruit farmers, collected the contact information of many buyers, and after she contacted and negotiated one by one, this batch of guava was successfully sold.

During the initial outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, fruits and vegetables were slow to sell, and the buyers who had originally booked fresh fruits have cancelled their orders one after another, and the income of many fruit farmers has plummeted, and Lu Wenying is not spared. "The agreed buyers can't get in because of the road closure, and the guava can't be sold." Seeing that the guava on the tree was becoming more and more mature, Lu Wenying was getting more and more anxious every day. "I remembered once hearing my relatives at home say that the residents of the community in the city were inconvenient to buy fresh vegetables and fruits because of the impact of the epidemic, and many fruit farmers packed the unsalable fruits and sent them to the community in the city for sale, so I immediately found someone to understand." After finding the way, Lu Wenying packed his own guava and sent it to the community in the city for sale, which greatly alleviated the problem of slow sales caused by the epidemic.

Take the initiative to apply for poverty alleviation

With a strength to endure hardships, not to accept defeat and hard work, Lu Wenying has broken through the world in guava cultivation, and the small guava has become the "income increase fruit" of Lu Wenying's family. With the gradual stabilization of guava production, the living conditions of Lu Wenying's family have also improved significantly. In 2019, after the annual income from guava cultivation reached 70,000 yuan, Lu Wenying took the initiative to apply to the government for poverty alleviation.

"I would like to thank the government for its encouragement and support, as well as the care and help of enthusiastic people, whose care makes me feel warm." Without them, I would probably still be living in the tile house today. I took the initiative to apply for poverty alleviation, but also to save resources for the government to help other people in need. Lu Wenying said with gratitude that every new year's festival, the local government and support units will send her peanut oil, rice and other daily necessities and condolence money; when the guava is slow to sell due to the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the town government staff also helped contact the buyer to help alleviate the problem of guava slow sales.

Today, Lu Wenying's two children have stable jobs, and the family burden has been greatly reduced. Relying on the savings of these years of hard work, last year, Lu Wenying's family also moved into a 3-storey self-built house. The spacious and bright new building with complete furniture has become a symbol of the beautiful life of Lu Wenying's family.

In the past two years, the market price of guava has decreased, especially affected by the frost at the end of last year and the beginning of this year, many of the guavas in Lu Wenying's family have only grown seedlings and have not yet borne fruit. Although this year's harvest has dropped sharply, she has not been discouraged. "I'll try to change to something else in the spring of next year, as long as I work hard, my life will definitely get better and better." Lu Wenying said optimistically. Her unpretentious words reveal her down-to-earth diligence and unremitting pursuit of a better life.

  ◆ Reporter's Note

Looking forward to the emergence of more "Lu Wenying" in the countryside

Poverty alleviation is not the end, but the starting point of a new life and a new struggle. If you want to get rid of poverty and increase income or even get rich, the government's policy support is only one aspect, and the most important thing is to rely on your own hands to work hard. If you blindly "wait and rely on it", even if you get rid of poverty for a while, it is not a long-term solution. The journey is long, only struggle. The results of poverty alleviation are not easy to come by, and I hope that the villagers who have successfully lifted themselves out of poverty will consolidate the hard-won achievements, continue to work hard, and make the money bags bulge through hard work; I also wish that the "Lu Wenying" who uphold the quality of down-to-earth and hard work will go wider and wider, and life will be better and better.
