Cai Qi meets with Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike

Yesterday afternoon, Cai Qi, secretary of the municipal party committee, met with Yuriko Koike, the visiting governor of Tokyo, at the Beijing City Sub-Center. Chen Jining, deputy secretary of the municipal party committee and mayor, and Yuriko Koike signed a memorandum of understanding on exchanges and cooperation between the two cities.

Cai Qi said that Tokyo is the first international friendship city concluded by Beijing, and this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the two cities. Standing at a new historical starting point, we should take the important consensus reached at the Osaka summit between the Chinese and Japanese leaders as the guide, uphold the original intention of friendship, adhere to the principle of moving in the same direction, and promote the better development of sister-city relations between the two cities. Deepen and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of finance, science and technology, new energy vehicles, and intelligent equipment, and build a platform and provide convenience for enterprises of both sides to carry out docking and cooperation, so as to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. Carry out in-depth exchanges and mutual learning on urban planning and construction management, and learn from Tokyo's useful experience in metropolitan area construction, old city transformation, rail transit, and garbage disposal. Continue to strengthen exchanges in the fields of culture, education, and tourism, and build a solid public opinion foundation for friendship between the two cities. The two cities are both members of the Olympic family, and have further strengthened cooperation in the preparation of the Olympic Games and the post-game utilization of venues and facilities, so as to jointly promote the development of the Olympic Movement. I wish the 2020 Tokyo Olympics a complete success.

Yuriko Koike said that the planning and construction of the Beijing urban sub-center and the preparations for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games are impressive. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is willing to work with Beijing Municipality to take the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the two cities as an opportunity to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields and make new contributions to Japan-China friendship.

Chen Jining and Yuriko Koike signed memorandums of understanding on behalf of the Beijing Municipal People's Government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government respectively, and the two cities will expand and deepen exchanges and cooperation in ten fields, including scientific and technological innovation, urban planning, health and health, and youth.

Before the meeting, Yuriko Koike and her party visited the Millennium City Watch Forest, as well as the Beijing City Sub-Center Planning Sandbox, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and the exhibition commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Beijing Tokyo Marriage.
