Chen Ju's connection with politics
Chen Ju was born in 1950 in Sanxing Township, Yilan County, from a large family of farmers. He is the second of five siblings in the family. After graduating from high school, Chen Ju began to devote herself to the political movement against the Kuomintang, and from the age of 19, she served as the secretary of Guo Yuxin, a non-party figure, and began to establish a deep relationship with Lin Yixiong, Zhang Junhong, Yao Jiawen, and other future "Taiwan independence" bigwigs.
Chen Ju described herself as "a girl married to Taiwan", and the "Formosa Boulevard Incident" in 1979 was her "dowry". In 1979, Chen Ju served as an editorial board member of Formosa Boulevard Magazine. On December 10 of that year, the "Formosa Boulevard Incident" broke out. Non-party activists, with members of Formosa Formosa magazine as the core, organized mass demonstrations and speeches in Kaohsiung, demanding an end to party bans and martial law, triggering clashes between the police and the people, and injuring nearly 200 people on both sides. Subsequently, the Kuomintang authorities arrested non-party figures on a large scale, conducted military trials, and even died for rebellion, and Chen Ju was one of them. On March 18, 1980, 29-year-old Chen Ju was indicted on charges of "rebellion" and sentenced to 12 years in prison.
After serving six years and two months in prison, Chen Ju was released from prison in 1986. In the same year, the Dpp was founded, and Chen Ju was one of the members of the ten-member group of the founding party of the DPP, belonging to the new trend department of the main factions within the DPP.

From 1994 to 1998, when Chen Shui-bian was the mayor of Taipei, he invited Chen Ju to be the director of the Taipei Municipal Social Bureau. In 1998, Chen Ju was invited by Kaohsiung Mayor Xie Changting to serve as the director of the Kaohsiung Municipal Social Bureau. In May 2000, Chen Ju joined the administrative team of the Taiwan authorities as the head of the labor department. He resigned in September 2005 due to the Kaohsiung MRT Foreign Labor Fraud Case.
In 2006, Chen Ju ran for mayor of Kaohsiung and narrowly defeated kuomintang candidate Huang Junying by a small margin of 1,114 votes. In 2010, Kaohsiung County and Kaohsiung City were merged into Greater Kaohsiung City, and Chen Ju defeated the non-party candidate Yang Qiuxing and the Kuomintang candidate Huang Zhaoshun to be elected as the first mayor of Greater Kaohsiung. In 2014, Chen Juli fought for the re-election of kaohsiung mayor, but just three months before the vote, a number of petrochemical gas explosions occurred in the qianzhen district of Kaohsiung City and Lingya district, resulting in 32 deaths and 321 injuries. The responsibility for the gas explosion accident is mostly directed at the poor supervision of the Kaohsiung Municipal Government, but this major incident did not have much impact on Chen Ju, whose vote rate was more than 65% in the hard-hit areas of Lingya District and Qianzhen District, and Chen Ju won nearly one million votes in total, and was re-elected mayor of Kaohsiung with an overwhelming victory.
