Li Shimin doted on his second son Li Tai so much that he did not make him crown prince in the end

author:Zhang Shengquan's wonderful history

Li Tai was the second son of Li Shimin and Empress Changsun. Li Tai was "brilliant and brilliant" from an early age, but later developed into a plot to seize the position of prince and was punished by Li Shimin. So, how did Li Tai get to this point?

In fact, Li Tai came to this step, and his father Li Shimin had to bear an unshirkable responsibility.

First, Li Shimin set a "good example" for Li Tai.

When Li Shimin explained why he did not appoint Li Tai as the crown prince, he had an explanation: "If I are Li Tai, it is the position of prince that can be managed." That is to say, if Li Tai is made crown prince, it means that the position of prince can be obtained through management. Therefore, he did not stand, and he also said: "From now on, the prince has lost his way, and the king of the clan has snooped on him, and he has abandoned it twice, passed on to all his descendants, and will always be the law of the future", and the rule of "never allowing the prince's throne (including the throne)" should be passed on forever.

However, we all know that Li Shimin's position as crown prince was itself obtained through planning. It was he who launched the Xuanwumen coup and personally shot the crown prince Li Jiancheng, who became the crown prince and then the son of the day. Some people may say that Li Shimin was also forced to be helpless, because Li Jiancheng and Li Yuanji had been plotting to kill him all day. But no matter what, Li Jiancheng and Li Yuanji did not move, and Li Shimin was still so cruel - shooting with his own hands. This is in any case unjustifiable. Therefore, when Li Shimin said this, it seemed somewhat ironic.

In fact, this rule of "never allowing the crown prince's throne (including the throne)" was not passed down, and until Li Longji succeeded to the throne, his descendants have been "operating". There was not a moment's pause.

Second, Li Shimin's inappropriate parenting style harmed Li Tai.

Li Tai because of his intelligence, because of his cuteness, because of his talent, Li Shimin doted on him heavily. The degree of doting exceeded that of all of Li Shimin's sons, including the crown prince Li Chengqian. Specifically:

First, Li Shimin rewarded Li Tai too much. In the second year of Zhenguan (628), When Li Tai was only 9 years old, Li Shimin crowned him king for the second time. According to the rules, the king of the county is at most from a pin, but the king of Li Tai is a positive pin from the beginning. In addition, he was also made the governor of Yangzhou and the governor of Yuezhou, and the fiefdom reached 22 states, surpassing all the kings. According to the rules, if you are crowned as the queen of the county, you must take office. But Li Shimin was reluctant to let him go out, "not an official." Zhenguan continued to be rewarded for five or six years, or let him "not be an official". Perhaps Li Shimin himself felt that something was wrong, and after eight years of zhenguan, he quickly made him the pastor of Yongzhou, that is, the governor who managed the capital Chang'an. In this way, Li Tai can justifiably say "no official".

The second is that Li Shimin let Li Tai live in violation of the law. In the tenth year of Zhenguan (636), Li Tai was again crowned king of Wei and let him live in the Wude Hall. The Wude Hall is close to the Eastern Palace where the crown prince lives. In other words, Li Shimin treated Li Tai the same as the crown prince Li Chengqian. On the one hand, Li Shimin severely punished the crown prince Li Chengqian, and on the other hand, Li Shimin rewarded Li Tai heavily and let him live in such a sensitive place, how could Li Tai not swell?

Third, Li Shimin tolerated Li Tai's mistakes. The most typical example is that Li Tai took the throne in front of the ministers of the DPRK, but Li Shimin instead believed that the ministers of the DPRK did not respect Li Tai, summoned Fang Xuanling, Wei Zheng, and others into the palace, severely reprimanded, and did not look for problems from Li Tai at all. In the end, it was Wei Zhengqiang who argued, and Li Shimin admitted his mistake. But it was only a verbal admission, and did not discipline Li Tai.

Third, Li Shimin made a wrong assessment of Li Tai's talents.

Li Tai's talent is manifested in these two points: First, he loves literature, calligraphy, and books. To this end, Li Shimin also asked Li Tai to set up a literature museum at home, and let Li Tai recruit bachelors at the same time. At the same time, he also presided over the compilation of the "Chronicle of The Lands". These talents were obviously not enough to govern the country, but Li Shimin's excessive exaggeration fueled Li Tai's political ambitions. Second, after Li Shimin deposed Li Chengqian as crown prince because of Li Chengqian's rebellion, Li Tai said that he would kill his son in the future and pass the throne to his younger brother Li Zhi. This is obviously contrary to common sense, and Li Shimin actually believes it to be true, believing that it is a manifestation of Li Tai's "friendship". This is also a wrong judgment.

In short, because Li Shimin himself blindly doted, blindly elevated, and blindly appeased, finally Li Tai had ambitions to seize the crown prince. In fact, this also provides a negative teaching material for our current parents to educate their children.
