Ever since he began experimenting with tulle more than a decade ago, artist Benjamin Shine has become known for his unique work. From abstract works on canvas to elaborate sculptures and ethereal installations, grid-like tulle presents an unparalleled beauty in the hands of this artist.
In Benjamin's ongoing "Flow" series, he depicts a variety of abstract faces, all of whose delicate features are formed in a tuft of delicate mesh fabric, floating in the air like smoke.
"In these works, tulle is a metaphor for mindfulness, meditation, and finding clear concepts from chaos," the artist says, "and I created them with the goal of slowing people down and focusing on focus." Similarly, for myself, the whole creative process is a kind of meditation. ”
Benjamin's works go far beyond the lightness of their surfaces, and they also convey an emotion. These unknown faces closed their eyes and seemed to be immersed in their own realm of solitude. "I was particularly interested in the idea of impermanence and the relationship between the surface and the spirit," the artist explains, "and the inspiration is more about interest or concept, from which I make many different types of creations." These concepts revolve around spiritual expression, the flow of energy, and the mysteries and relationships between the visible and the unseen. It was a long-term, seemingly intrinsic inspiration for me that I had to explore in a variety of visual ways. In a sense, the actual images or forms that form the basis of the work, whether faces or other recognizable objects, are essentially merely tools for conveying these concepts. ”
Benjamin is about to release the first limited edition print in his Mobile series, and you can check out more on his personal social networking site.
