On May 17, the 2021 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day Conference was grandly opened in Zhengzhou, and the 2021 World Telecom and Information Society Day Conference series of activities - 5G Vertical Industry Application Innovation Conference was held in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province. With the theme of "5G Private Network Empowering Thousands of Industries", the conference gathered many guests such as operator leaders, well-known industry experts and senior executives of enterprises in the 5G vertical field to talk about the development trend of 5G vertical industry applications.

At the meeting, Ma Liang, President of HUAWEI CLOUD Core Network Marketing Engineering, delivered a keynote speech on "Public Network Dedicated, Accelerating Application Innovation in the 5G Industry", sharing Huawei's exploration and understanding of 5G private network with the audience.

Public network dedicated to 5G private network is the best choice

At present, China's 5G network construction is leading the way, and innovative applications are gradually landing. China has built the largest 5gtoc core network with about 300 million users and the largest 5gtob core network with about 50 million users. According to reports, by the end of 2020, Huawei and industry partners have created more than 3,000 5G innovation projects, covering more than 20 industries, especially mining, steel, ports, cement, manufacturing, chemicals, power grids, police and other leading industries.

Ma Liang said that in this process of exploration and research, Huawei found that for equipment manufacturers, the key to the success of 5Gtob lies in network construction and industry enablement. In terms of network construction, it mainly focuses on two issues, how to avoid network fragmentation, improve the efficiency of industry resources and how to concentrate on doing big things and reduce the cost of industry network construction. There are 3 problems to be solved in terms of industry enablement, how to make industry innovation simpler; how to make applications more agile; and how to use network capabilities to enhance industry applications.

In Ma Liang's view, public network dedicated is the best choice for 5G private network. In the 4G era, the industry has explored the construction of private network dedicated, but due to the excessive fragmentation of private network products, difficulties in following up the 3gpp protocol, and high cost of mature terminal module chips, it was finally decided to eliminate private network products and use operators' public network dedicated instead. Ma Liang pointed out that the public network has a scale effect, which can continue to support the evolution of protocols and terminal ecology. At the same time, a network built by public operators has low comprehensive cost and wide-area coverage, which can adapt to the needs of customers in different industries. However, industry customers still have concerns about data security and business security for public network private use. "Don't be afraid of problems, all problems have solutions", in response to the above concerns, Huawei launched a kite program.

According to reports, the kite scheme realizes the enterprise private network through the public network slicing, and sinks the upf to the enterprise park to ensure data security. Therefore, Huawei has divided the kite scheme into three kite modes, small, medium and large, to ensure that the deployment data does not leave the park, the edge plug and play can be quickly opened in 2 hours, and the campus/center collaboration and continuous network disconnection.

Three aspects

Enable industry innovation

After the network is built, how to empower thousands of industries has become the top priority, and Huawei has also played an important role in this. Ma Liang said that in order to better promote integration and innovation and enable industry applications, Huawei has mainly done three things.

The first is to understand the industry & collect industry needs. Huawei organized the establishment of 5GDNA and other industry alliances, and after more than a year of operation, summarized and collected the key needs of energy, coal mines and other related industries. Ma Liang shared four high-frequency scenarios recorded by Huawei, such as limited uplink bandwidth of machine vision, reduced connectivity caused by i-frame collisions in video surveillance, gradual improvement of positioning accuracy from personnel to equipment indoor positioning, and overly complex layer two networking for industrial networking using AR routers.

Second, in response to the above needs, while expanding network capabilities, Huawei also promotes related capabilities through 3gpp to promote network capabilities from atomization to standardization, including lossless compression and decompression of edge-end collaboration; upstream i-frame detection and peak shifting; precise positioning from meter-level to sub-meter-level; and ar-free networking based on 5Glan.

The third is the integration of industry application development. Huawei launched the edgegallery open source community, and based on Huawei's clap lab, it can provide developers, traders, tenants, operators, etc. with end-to-end mirror capabilities and integration platforms, and can easily publish images to operator networks, thereby accelerating network application innovation in the industry.

At the end of the speech, Ma Liang concluded that to promote the application innovation of the 5G industry, it is necessary to "do a good job in the network and give good energy" to it. It is hoped that the public network will be used to build a 5G private network to avoid network fragmentation, improve the efficiency of industry resources, and reduce the cost of industry network construction. Huawei will also continue to understand the industry and collect industry needs through the 5GDNA Industry Alliance, continuously enhance the atomization network capabilities and promote standardization for the industry, and accelerate vertical industry applications. "I hope that by building the network well, continuously practicing, focusing on high-frequency applications, and finding 1 to n replicable scenarios, I can accelerate the innovation of 5Gtob industry scenarios."
