Beijing, 11 Oct (Xinhua) -- As the opening performance of the 21st Beijing International Music Festival, the "New National Opera" "Farewell to the King" will land at the Poly Theater on the evening of 12 October. The drama integrates multimedia, modern dance and Western music into the opera, directed by Chen Shizheng, a Chinese director in the United States, starring Yang Chi and Ding Xiaojun, starring Yang Chi and Ding Xiaojun, conducting by conductor Hu Bingxu, and co-produced by German, American, British and Italian creators.
Chen Shizheng introduced in Beijing on the 11th that there will be ten pipa players sitting around the stage, playing a piece of music re-created according to some of the motives in the famous pipa song "Ten Faces Ambush", while the ten-sided pipa and percussion drums and Peking Opera gongs and drums are combined to show the magnificent war scenes.
"The expressionist elements are not novel, but serve the organic presentation of the story's connotations, and then re-tell this heroic lament and love story from more than two thousand years ago." He said.
As a conductor trained in New China, Hu Bingxu participated in the creation and rehearsal of the symphony "Sha Jiabang" and the modern Peking Opera "Wise Tiger Mountain" and "Cuckoo Mountain", which has an important pioneering significance in the history of Chinese opera by combining the symphony orchestra with the national instrumental harmony cavity.
"The plot of 'Farewell to the King' is well known, but this time the director retains the tradition while turning the music into part of the plot, presenting a new performance effect for the audience." He said.
Yang Chi, the actor of the overlord in the play and the performance artist of the Yuan school of Peking Opera, said that this performance hopes to make a breakthrough in the expressiveness of Peking Opera in expressing the emotions of the characters; Ding Xiaojun, the actor of Yu Ji and a disciple of Peking Opera performance artist Du Jinfang, said that he hopes to seize the "love" word of the overlord Beiji and show the beauty of Peking Opera art.
According to reports, this year's Beijing International Music Festival will be held from October 12 to 26, including 21 performances.
