OKLAHOMA, USA: 31 tornadoes in October set a 70-year record for the state

Oklahoma had 31 tornadoes in October, the state's record for the most tornadoes of the same period since 1950.

The Associated Press quoted National Weather Service expert Phil Weir as saying on Nov. 2 that so many tornadoes in October are uncommon, but not outrageously numerous. In October 1998, Oklahoma had 27 tornadoes. Meteorological records show that March to June is oklahoma's tornado season.

Of all the tornadoes in the state in October, the one that blew the most near the small town of Anadarko on October 10, with speeds between 182 and 253 kilometers per hour. A total of 17 tornadoes were recorded in Oklahoma that day. Between Oct. 12 and 13, Oklahoma experienced 13 more tornadoes. On October 27, Oklahoma blew the last tornado of the month. None of these tornadoes caused fatalities.
