author:CNR

Beijing, June 7 (CCTV) -- The Voice of China of the Central Radio and Television Corporation and the National Radio and Television Station jointly launched a special report entitled "A Moment in the Centenary of the Communist Party of China." This issue is launched: New China broke the world record for the first time.

On June 7, 1956, the Sino-Soviet Weightlifting Friendly Competition was held at the Luwan District Gymnasium in Shanghai, and the weightlifting platform in the center of the field was impressively marked with the world record of the lightest weight deadlift set by American athlete Wen Qi in the 132.5 kg. More than 3,000 on-site spectators and countless Chinese people are eagerly looking forward to the Chinese players to achieve good results and even break the world record, so that New China can raise its eyebrows on the international sports stage. Chen Jingkai, who was only 20 years old, was the last to appear on behalf of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and he asked the referee for 133 kilograms.

The referee's three white lights lit up at the same time, Chen Jingkai successfully lifted a 133 kg barbell, and the first world record in the history of Chinese sports was born, achieving a breakthrough of zero in the world record of Chinese sports. What you hear now is a recording of Chen Jingkai's interview with reporters after breaking the world record in 1956.

Press Bulletin No. 46 of 1956:

Narrator: Chen Jingkai is receiving visiting journalists, now please listen to their conversations.

Reporter: Comrade Chen Jingkai, please talk about your feelings after breaking the world record for the lightest (quantitative) two-handed upright.

Chen Jingkai: In this competition, I was able to break the world record for two-handed lifting with a score of 133 kilograms, which should first of all be attributed to the cultivation of me by the party and the state, to the meticulous guidance of Soviet comrades, and to the care and encouragement of comrades. Although I have broken the world record, I am not complacent because this is just the beginning.

In November 1956, Chen Jingkai broke two more world records in a row, but because these world records were set domestically, some Western countries refused to recognize them. In this regard, Chen Jingkai remained silent, and he continued to practice hard, waiting for the opportunity to prove himself. In August 1957, the Third International Youth Friendship Games was held in Moscow, and the Chinese weightlifting team stood on the stage of the international competition for the first time.

After two attempts, Chen Jingkai finished second with 130 kilograms, and the third attempt only needed to lift 136 kilograms to break the world record, but he asked the referee for 140 kilograms. Before going on the field, Chen Jingkai left such a sentence for his teammates: "Anyway, find someone under the barbell!" ”

Zhao Qingkui, a former member of the national weightlifting team: What is the name of finding someone under the barbell? That is to say, either lift it up or let it fall on my stomach. When he said that he was looking for someone under the barbell, he said this, he said, you pay attention to the back, if you really smashed me down there, you quickly moved me up.

In the end, Chen Jingkai, who weighed only 56 kilograms, successfully lifted a 140-kilogram barbell, and the bright five-star red flag rose in the majestic national anthem.

Chen Jingkai: Starting from scratch, every time I broke a world record, I came from scratch again, and I tried to exercise and practice until I broke the second world record. You can win every game with yourself, and the road that should be the world champion is to walk together. Definitely passing by, this intersection is the world record, that intersection is the world champion. If you can do this, that's the way to go, so I ask myself that every time you should win yourself.

In the nine years from 1956 to 1964, Chen Jingkai broke the world record ten times and became a symbol of the bravery of the times. A reporter once asked Chen Jingkai, "What is the power that makes you lift such a heavy barbell?" He replied proudly: "I lifted it up with the strength of 600 million people." ”
