The opera was founded in 1939 by Wang Yongsuo, a native of Anyue County, Ziyang City. In 1940, the playwright Cao Yu commented that the performance of "Selling Plasters" was a white painting and gave high praise to the play. In 1943, Wang Yongsuo came to Zigong Artesian Well, went to the tea house and downtown to experience life, and created his second "pulling miscellaneous drama" "Pickpocket". Zigong audiences praised it for its extraordinary humor, and he named this new comedy performing art form "harmonic drama".
