Brief introduction
Long-tailed shark. The longest can reach 4.5 meters, the ordinary body length is about 1.5 meters, and the tail is generally half the length of the body. The caudal axis is low and slightly upturned, the caudal stalk tip is flattened on the side, without a lateral process, and there is a depression above the caudal base, and the depression below is sometimes insignificant. The mouth is curved with lip folds. The eyes are round, small or medium-sized, without transient membranes. The water spray hole is small. The gill foramen are medium-sized, and the last 2 to 3 are located above the base of the pectoral fin. Tooth triangle, lateral tooth head with or without. The first dorsal fin is located above or near the ventral fin between the pectoral and ventral fins; the second dorsal and fins are small; the pectoral fins are large. It is widely distributed in tropical, subtropical and temperate sea areas of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Fossils are found in the Tertiary period to modern times.
predation
It is widely distributed in the world's tropical and temperate oceans, feeding on squid and swarm fish. The prey is driven into small groups with a long tail and then preyed. Sometimes stun the prey with its tail, or hit the surface of the water to intimidate the prey. It is generally considered harmless to people. The famous fox-shaped long-tailed shark (a. vulpinus) is a large, dark-skinned species that can be up to 6 meters (20 feet) long and is found in the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific Oceans. Meat is for consumption, and the skin, bone, and offal can be used to make fish oil, fish skin glue and fishmeal.
The longtail shark is a veritable all-round killer, using everything from its teeth to its tail as a weapon, especially its tail. A 20-foot-long longtail shark may have half the length at the tail. Researchers who have observed the long-tail shark catching prey have found that it will hit the water with its long tail to make a terrible sound, frightening the fish into a clump or even losing consciousness, at which point the long-tail shark will enjoy it until it is full.
The longtail shark feeds mainly on pelagic bands such as flat trevally, tuna and mackerel, squid and squid. They track schools of fish to shallow water. They also eat crustaceans and seabirds.
Distribution range
The longtail shark has a wide range of activities and is found in temperate and subtropical waters of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans.
There are not many species, there are only 3 species in China, in the South China Sea and the East China Sea common is the arc longtail shark and shallow sea longtail shark (also known as the shallow sea foxtail), there is also a kind of called deep sea longtail shark, mainly living in the deep open sea.
reproduction
Longtail sharks do not have a pronounced reproductive season. Fertilization and embryonic growth both take place in the mother's body, i.e. they are oviparous. There are only about 2-4 baby sharks per litter, which are 150 cm long at birth and have a younger tail. Baby sharks are yolk-eating when they are mothers and will eat other unfertilized eggs.
