Shanghai, 18 Oct (Xinhua) -- Let the world understand China more deeply and promote the integration and development of China and the world. The Ninth World Forum on Chinese Studies, with the theme of "Communist Party of China, China, the World", opened in Shanghai on the afternoon of the 18th.
Co-sponsored by the Information Office of the State Council and the Shanghai Municipal Government, and jointly organized by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and the Information Office of the Shanghai Municipal Government, the World Forum on Chinese Studies is held every two years, and is a high-level, all-round and open academic forum, as well as a national-level platform for Chinese research and exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations.
Jiang Jianguo, deputy director of the Central Propaganda Department, said in his keynote speech that only from the magnificent course, immortal deeds, and great spirit of the CPC's century-long struggle can we find the law of why the CPC can succeed and how it can continue to succeed, so as to give play to the important role of academic research in learning from the past and understanding the present, and to better provide useful enlightenment for today's global governance. It is hoped that Chinese studies researchers around the world will carry out research from a macro perspective of insight into the global development trend and an open, inclusive, pluralistic and mutually learned development vision, so that Chinese studies can keep up with the pace of China's progress and make positive contributions to building a better world.
Gong Zheng, deputy secretary of the Shanghai Municipal CPC Committee and mayor of Shanghai, pointed out in his speech that in the past hundred years, from Shikumen to Tiananmen, from Xingye Road to Fuxing Road, the CPC has profoundly changed China and the city of Shanghai. It is hoped that the international academic community will better understand and study China through the important window of Shanghai. At the same time, Shanghai will further create a good research environment and build a research center for Sinology with international influence.
At the opening ceremony of the forum, three famous scholars, Nameless Professor Lu Wei of the University of Cambridge, Professor Emeritus of the University of California, San Diego, Zhou Xirui, and Director of the Institute of Chinese Classical Culture of Nankai University, Ye Jiaying, were awarded the "Sixth World Contribution Award for Chinese Studies" and delivered video acceptance speeches respectively.
