The Adjacent Yangchun Ehuangling Provincial Nature Reserve in Guangdong Province also captured the first image of The field activities of Chinese pangolins in June this year. According to the Forestry Bureau of Guangdong Province, in the past ten years, forest resources and wildlife resources such as forest area, forest coverage and forest stock in Guangdong Province have shown a steady growth trend, the ecological environment has continued to improve, and rare and endangered wild animals and rare plants have been discovered more and more.

In July this year, the Maoming Forestry Bureau, together with the pangolin research team of the Guangdong Academy of Forestry, went to maoming Heweishan Municipal Nature Reserve to investigate and deploy infrared monitoring cameras. In the early morning of September 21, infrared surveillance cameras captured images of Chinese pangolins moving in caves.

From the image, it can be seen that under the night, a Chinese pangolin walks under the forest and quickly enters the cave. At the end of September, the research team came to the reserve again for a careful investigation, found more than 10 caves suspected of pangolins, and successively added a number of infrared monitoring cameras to continue to record the activities of Chinese pangolins through infrared monitoring cameras.

In recent years, our province has recorded images of Chinese pangolins in eastern Guangdong, northern Guangdong and the Pearl River Delta region. Recently, wild Chinese pangolins have been found in Yangjiang City and Maoming City in western Guangdong, which is of great significance for the protection and research of Chinese pangolins and their habitats. According to experts, Maoming Heweishan Municipal Nature Reserve and Guangdong Yangchun Ehuangzhuang Provincial Nature Reserve are a connected nature reserve in western Guangdong, with good habitat quality and connectivity, and there should be a Population of Chinese pangolins. The relevant person in charge of the Provincial Forestry Bureau said that in the future, our province will strengthen the monitoring and species research of Chinese pangolins in the region to protect these rare species.

As one of the provinces with the richest biodiversity in the country, Guangdong Province has a rich and diverse ecosystem. As of 2020, the province's forest area is 10.5322 million hectares, the forest coverage rate is 58.66%, and 1362 nature reserves have been established, with a total of 774 species of terrestrial vertebrate wildlife and more than 7700 kinds of vascular plants. There are 74 species of wild plants under national and provincial key protection, and there are nearly 300 species of endemic plants in Guangdong.

In recent years, Guangdong Province has continuously increased the protection of biodiversity, taken the lead in writing a comprehensive ban on the consumption of terrestrial wild animals into local regulations, carried out in situ and ex situ protection of rare and endangered species, and organized artificial breeding, rewilding training, and return, etc., and the wild resource population in Guangdong Province is growing steadily.

In recent years, Guangdong has discovered a number of new species and new species such as Danxia sycamore and iguana, and the number of rare and endangered birds such as black-faced spoonbills, Chinese autumn sand ducks, Mandarin ducks, blue-headed diving ducks, small blue-footed sandpipers, spoon-billed sandpipers and other rare and endangered birds has increased significantly, such as the number of bird species in Guangzhou Haizhu Wetland has increased from 72 to 180 species, vascular plants 835 species, insect species have increased to 539 species; since August, Danxia Mountain has recorded 7 species of wading birds, and the bird list has increased to 231 species, and biodiversity has increased significantly. Since last year, our province has successively deployed more than 1,000 infrared automatic cameras in 20 protected areas such as Chebaling and Nanling, and a total of more than 110 kinds of wild animals have been photographed and recorded.
