This summer, tourists who went to Shihan Village in Hongmao Town, Qiongzhong Li and Miao Autonomous County, Hainan Province, for the summer, were still as crowded as in previous years. Wang Guomin, a villager who runs the farm, is too busy to stand up straight every day, saying: "After the new crown pneumonia epidemic, more and more tourists come to our place to breathe fresh air and feel the style of Li Miao."
Shihan Village is located in the alpine basin between Limu Mountain and Parrot Ridge, about 800 meters above sea level, is one of the highest villages in Hainan Province, has the reputation of "Heavenly Shihan", and is inhabited by 522 Li and Miao compatriots. Here the mountains and rivers are beautiful, the scenery is beautiful, and the ethnic customs are rich, but because it is located in the alpine basin, it is constrained by factors such as high altitude and low heat climate, traffic blockage, etc., it is difficult to plant cash crops, and the development of aquaculture is not ideal. Before 2009, the annual per capita income of Shihan Village had been hovering around 900 yuan.
In order to change the face of poverty in Shihan Village, in 2009, the Qiongzhong County Party Committee and County Government built Shihan Village into a poverty alleviation demonstration point for rural tourism in Qiongzhong "Benganei" (Li language "come here") according to local characteristics, and promoted the integrated development of agriculture and tourism. In the process of construction, the county adheres to the tenet of zero displacement of residents, zero ecological damage, and zero environmental pollution, and on the basis of villagers not losing their jobs, not losing land, and not losing their homes, and does not engage in large-scale demolition and construction, so that Shihan Village attracts visitors from all over the world with its original ecological natural environment and beautiful pastoral scenery.
Wang Guomin was one of the first farmers in the village to open a farm. Earlier, he was also one of the quasi-poor households in Shihan Village, but in just a few years, as the fame of Shihan Village became more and more famous, tourists flocked to him, and he relied on rural tourism to work hard to get rich, and now he is a standard Shihan Village rich leader.
He said that at that time, the start of the farm was relatively low, and the grade was also low, but with the green mountains and green water of Shihan Village, the air rich in negative oxygen ions, the simple hospitality of the villagers, and the authentic farmhouse dishes, it attracted tourists from near and far. "As more and more people come to Shihan Village to play, the business of each farm is getting better and better, and the villagers' pockets are gradually bulging, and they have bought new TVs, speakers, computers, etc." Wang Guomin introduced.
Now many villagers in the village have opened farms, not only so that their families have something to do, to solve the problem of labor and employment, but also so that nearby farmers' black pork, native chicken, wild vegetables, Dendrobium officinale, Ganoderma lucidum and other agricultural products, local products also have the nearest sales channels.
At present, all the poor people in Shihan Village have been lifted out of poverty. In 2019, Shihan Village developed 18 farmhouses, 20 specialty stores, 129,000 tourist arrivals, and tourism income of 10.24 million yuan. The per capita income of Shihan Village has increased from less than 1,000 yuan in 2009 to 15,000 yuan today, effectively driving the masses to get rid of poverty and become rich. Shihan Village has transformed from a poor village in the past into the "most beautiful Chinese village", becoming a model for qiongzhong eco-tourism to successfully get rid of poverty.
