Some new concept art for Alien 5 was circulating online, giving fans a glimpse into the sequel that Neil Blomkamp had planned to prepare for the Alien movie.
The concept drawing comes from painter Geoffroy Thoorens, who was involved in the now-shelved Alien 5 film in Neil Blomkamp. According to the original plan, Alien 5 will ignore the plot of 1992's Alien 3 and 1997's Alien 4, bringing back previous characters such as Bishop, Corporal Hicks and others.
Thoorens said the above images show the team's various ideas before the final script. These early concept maps include a room with an alien egg, and another is the heroine Ripley dressed as an alien and fighting an alien empress. Thoorens later told fans that it was actually a bio-mechanical suit.
Thoorens confirmed that the canceled Alien 5 film had about 30-40 sketch concepts, tentatively titled Alien: Red Harvest, which was later halted because 20th Century Fox chose to focus on Ridley Scott's Promethean sequel, Alien: The Covenant. Blomkamp confirmed in October 2015 that Alien 5 had been shelved indefinitely and that he himself had moved on to other projects.
Alien: Covenant opened in the U.S. for about $36 million in 2017, down 34 percent from the first week of Prometheus in 2012. Later, the second week of Alien: Covenant also plummeted 71% at the box office.
Ridley Scott has revealed that after Alien: Covenant, he wants to make two more sequels (prequels), and the second film will be directly related to Alien 1. However, the merger of Disney and Fox in 2019 led to the postponement of the two sequels.
But that didn't stop Scott from thinking about where the 40-year-old sci-fi movie was headed. Just last year, the filmmaker shared his thoughts on the future of the Alien series, especially his thoughts on a third prequel film, explaining that he would like to see the next Alien explore the secret origins of the Alien egg in the original 1979 classic.
