Go to Yangpu Binjiang for a "drama walking theater", experience the new circus & installation theater on the outdoor platform of Shanghai International Fashion Center, meet improvisational drama and VR video theater in Changyang Chuanggu... Starting from November 13, the upcoming Shanghai Young Theater has launched the "Theater Everywhere, Art for Everyone" season in Yangpu Binjiang. As the first warm-up event before the theater opens next year, it is also the first public appearance of the Young Theater brand.

Formerly known as Yangpu Grand Theatre, young Theater is operated and managed by Shanghai Grand Theatre after the new renovation and is scheduled to be officially put into operation in the spring of 2022. Guided by the Shanghai Yangpu District Culture and Tourism Bureau, hosted by Young Theatre, and co-sponsored by Shanghai International Fashion Center and Changyang Chuanggu, the Young Theatre Season will be held next week in important cultural landmarks and creative parks in Yangpu and will last until November 27.

It is reported that in addition to the game season, the pre-opening warm-up also includes the "Small Stage, Big World" children's painting collection and exhibition plan and the "one person, one place, one thing" Yangpu story collection plan, which will also be launched separately. In addition, the season also produced and launched a creative peripheral - young theater limited edition stage commemorative card, to convey to the audience the beautiful meaning of "everywhere there is drama, you are the director of life".

Shanghai Yangpu will have a new theater, focusing on the positioning of drama "young"

Located at No. 1155, Kongjiang Road, Yangpu District, young Theater is an important project to build a major functional cultural facility layout in the "13th Five-Year Plan" of Yangpu District. In February 2018, the Shanghai Yangpu District Culture and Tourism Bureau signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with the Shanghai Grand Theatre, confirming that the transformed Yangpu Grand Theatre will be renamed Young Theatre, and after more than three years of preparation and renovation and expansion projects, the new theater will be completed at the end of this year.

"Young Theater", pronounced "Yang", takes the meaning of "young" in English, aiming to convey the meaning of "vitality and dare to innovate". The reconstructed theater has a total construction area of about 8,793 square meters, including a 1,020-seat main theater and a 168-seat small theater, with drama as the core, cross-border fusion art as an extension, integrating stage performance, original incubation, exhibition screening, public welfare education, and community empowerment, presenting dynamic, cutting-edge and diversified works of art, building a gravitational field and experimental field for new young artists, creating a theater without boundaries, and realizing the integration of field and community.

When positioning the Young Theater, the Shanghai Grand Theatre is not satisfied with being a chain store and replica of a grand theater, but hopes that the theater can create a professional theater with regional characteristics. Therefore, while planning the opening performance season, the theater preparatory operation team planned and launched a series of warm-up activities, taking the four major sections of "contemporary", "cross-border", "technology" and "local" as clues to integrate into the series of activities, popularize art, expand the audience, and prepare for the opening of the theater next year.

Yangpu Riverside

The theater brand made its debut, and the "Game Season" warm-up event broke through the boundaries of the theater

According to reports, the theme of this series of activities in the drama season is "theater everywhere, everyone can be artistic". The event covers a variety of artistic expressions such as theatrical walking, improvisational music, installation, body drama, VR image, etc., and invites new generation art groups such as the Dalu Theatre Company, the Otoko Orchestra, the Moon Theatre Company, and felttime, and the performance spaces are also unique. Landmark public spaces in Shanghai International Fashion Center, Changyang Chuanggu, Yangpu Binjiang and other areas have created a number of open stages.

In the coming month, the season will feature four events, namely "Riverside Theatre Walking Theatre: On the Shore", "New Circus & Installation Theatre: The Wave of Imagination", "One Man, One Story Theatre: Encounter", and "VR Image Theatre: Eye Sockets". Among them, the "Riverside Drama Walking Theatre" can be booked for free participation, the "New Circus & Installation Theatre" is open to all audiences free of charge, and the other two events are open to the park audience.

All the activities of the season invite the audience to participate, interact and share together, aiming to convey the accessibility of theater and art, break the audience's impression of traditional stage art "can only be viewed from a distance", and explore the infinite possibilities of "theater" and "theater".

"Different performing arts space, different presentation methods, different audience experience", the young theater operation and planning team said, this event is an "invitation letter" given to the audience before the official opening of the theater, and also hopes to bring the audience a different theater experience.
