Recently, the Shaanxi Rare Wildlife Rescue Base and the Weinan Wildlife Conservation Workstation released a large bustard, a national first-class protected animal, in the Yellow River Wetland in Dali County, Shaanxi Province.
Dali Yellow River Wetland is an important station and wintering ground for migratory birds. It is reported that this great bustard was rescued on February 19 due to a wing injury, and its health and physical fitness were gradually restored after careful treatment and care by the personnel of the Rare Wild Animal Rescue Base in Shaanxi Province. Experts assess that it meets the conditions for release.
The Great Bustard is a large landbird of the family Heliopodidae. During the breeding period, it mostly inhabits the open dry grasslands, savannas, desert grasslands and farmland in the hilly areas, and in winter, it mostly inhabits shallow lakes, meadows, grasslands and wheat fields near large lakes and rivers, mainly eating young leaves, shoots, young grasses, seeds, insects, frogs and so on.
In recent years, the Shaanxi Rare Wildlife Rescue Base has been committed to the treatment and care of wild animal rescue and shelter animals, and 25 animals (heads) of various types will be rescued and returned to 10 in 2020.
