According to historical records, Li Shangyin had three lovers with names to examine: one was his wife Wang Shi, one was his first love Song Huayang, and the other was Liu Zhi, the daughter of a wealthy merchant in Luoyang.
It is difficult to say who Li Shangyin loves the most, because he has paid his heart for every love and left him with unforgettable memories.
Many of his "Untitled" love poems are so confusing that it is impossible to tell which lover he is missing.
However, most people still think that his favorite is his wife Wang Shi, because many of his poems express his love for his wife more clearly.
When he was newly married, he once wrote a poem "Giving Lotus Flowers" to his beloved wife, which is the most beautiful love poem in the Tang Dynasty.
The full poem is as follows:
The flowers and leaves of the world are not compatible, and the flowers are dusted into the golden pots of leaves.
Only the green lotus red han, the curl shu open and close Ren naïve.
This flower and this leaf often reflect each other, and the green reduces the red and decays and kills people.
The poem does not begin with a pen from the lotus, but first writes about the different fates of ordinary flowers and leaves, so as to highlight the beauty of the lotus flowers that appear later.
The world always emphasizes flowers and leaves, planting flowers in golden pots, abandoning green leaves, and letting it drift with the wind, fall into the mud, and turn into dust.
Flowers and leaves are originally born from the same root, but they have completely different fates.
Flowers have their own thousands of purples and thousands of reds, green leaves also have its own style of thousands of kinds, red flowers no matter how colorful they need green leaves to match, but the world is so eccentric, seeing green leaves as nothing.
But in fact, sometimes you can't blame the world for being eccentric, because the flowers and leaves of many plants are not the same growth, just like the apricot blossom, it is a single flower, the leaves are not released and the flowers have bloomed, and the flowers have fallen when the leaves are born, although they are not like the flowers on the other side, the flowers and leaves never meet, but they are almost the same.
And the poet writes about the different fates of ordinary flowers and leaves and their inextricable relationship, in fact, all in order to contrast the lotus flowers he wants to praise.
The next three or four sentences are extremely beautiful about the lotus flower.
Only the lotus flowers in this world are red flowers and green leaves that contrast with each other, the lotus leaves are curled, the lotus flowers are open and closed, they are so natural.
The world says that the lotus flower is fresh and unworldly, "clear water out of the hibiscus, natural to carve", or that it comes out of the mud without staining, in short, it is a compliment to its purity.
But Li Shangyin here said that it is innocent and natural, the flowers and leaves match, perfect, but it is novel.
In fact, he was naturally not simply praising the lotus flower, but taking this opportunity to express his heart to his wife: You see us, just like this green lotus and red lotus, it is a pair created by heaven and earth.
Accustomed to listening to the metaphors of the winged bird and Lian Lizhi, I suddenly felt that Li Shangyin's unconventional metaphors were more fresh and natural, which showed his sincerity towards his wife.
Legend has it that Wang Shi is also a talented woman who is proficient in poetry and books, and Li Shangyin is indeed a match made in heaven, if she does not understand literature and ink, she must not understand Li Shangyin's affection to confess.
The last two sentences that followed were both an expectation and a concern.
Lotus flowers and lotus leaves contrast with each other, rely on each other, enviable, but when the lotus leaves wither and the lotus flowers wither, how sad it is!
The previous sentence shows his desire to live with the Wang family and grow old with a white head, while the latter sentence is his worry, he is afraid that their love will change.
Because love will be afraid, the so-called hundred years of repair to cross the same boat, a thousand years of cultivation to sleep together, he cherishes this hard-won fate, so he will feel that if he can't keep it, he will be miserable and old.
And he is also a proverb, and then the Wang clan went before him, leaving him alone in the world, it is rumored that "Jinse" is his work of mourning his deceased wife, "this can be a memory, but at that time it was already confused."
This poem seems to be written sentence by sentence, in fact, it is all a metaphor for people, which can be called the most beautiful love poems in the Tang Dynasty, and the deep affection in it is not less than his untitled love poems, all of which are the most loving texts written by the most affectionate people.
