One day, the spring sun was sunny and the breeze was not dry, and King Wen of Zhou brought WenWu's entourage to play by the Weishui River. King Wen suddenly heard a clear singing voice coming from afar, and the song sang: "I Cao Ben was a sea guest, washing my ears and not listening to the sound of the fallen country, singing the song of the flood day by day, and watching the stars at night. Lone fishing is not as wide as heaven and earth, and the white head is pitched to heaven and earth. Listening to the lyrics is the meaning that the Shang Dynasty is about to perish, Qiankun must be replaced, and the hermit is hiding from the world. King Wen was so amazed that he ordered the singing people to be found, but seeing that the men were fishing, he asked, "What song are you singing, and who made it up?"

The fisherman replied, "We are fishing, we can't read, so where can we make up songs?" This is an old man named Lu Shang, who sings every day on the edge of the Weishui River, and he sings these songs every day, and we all sing them when we hear them well. ”

King Wen listened, secretly admired the old man who was fishing, and decided to visit him personally.

King Wen and his party walked along the stream for more than a mile, and saw a white-haired old man sitting on the river fishing, king Wen had already walked up to him, only to see that the old man was still concentrating, and there was no one around. King Wen looked at the old man's fishing rod, it was really a little strange: a long line was tied with a straight hook; there was no bait on the hook, and what was even more strange was that the fishing rod was up and up, and the hook was three feet above the water.

King Wen gave a salute to the old man. Lu Shangcai held the fishing rod and said, "Who is coming?" King Wen said, "I am Xi Bo Jichang, who went out hunting today, and I heard that you are a wise man, so I have come to visit." Lu Shang's head did not twist, and he said: "You are out hunting and enjoying the scenery, and you are not really here to visit Xian." Besides, I'm just a fishing old man, already eighty years old, and I still want to take a name? I'm afraid I'm going to get in the way of your entertainment, so please go back! With that, he put away his fishing rod and walked into the reeds.

King Wen saw that the old man was proud and self-respecting in front of him, and he felt that Lü Shang was a person with extraordinary temperament. I thought to myself, blame me for not being respectful enough. I should solemnly ask him, how can I take advantage of the safari to take him away!" So King Wen went back to fasting for three days. On the fourth day, he specially brought civilian and military officials and cars to the creek.

At this time, Lü Shang was still sitting by the river, singing a song he had made up, and the song sang: "The short rod and the long line guard the Lingxi River, this organ knows, only fishing for the emperor and the courtier, why should he mean to fish in the water?" It turned out that Lü Shang had already seen Corporal LiXian of King Wen clearly, extremely personable, and wanted to come out to assist him. Now, King Wen has come again, and Lü Shang's ambitions are about to be realized.

King Wen saw Lü Shang and hurriedly gave greetings, and Lü Shang hurriedly replied, and the two came to Lü Shang's hut to discuss the major events of the world. Lü Shang then analyzed the situation in the world and advised King Wen to further accumulate strength and win the hearts and minds of the people, waiting for the opportunity. King Wen was very happy after hearing this, so he asked Lü Shang to get on the bus and take him back to the palace. After that, Lü Shang served as a military division for King Wen and King Wu successively.

King Wen of Zhou did not doubt the use of people, reused the talented Taigong Jiang, and successfully won the victory of king Wu and the peaceful establishment of Western Zhou.

The word Pingzhang comes from the Shangshu Yaodian (尚書• Yaodian) "Pingzhang People", which means to distinguish the hundred officials justly and to clarify their duties.
