As one of the pioneers of China's art industry in the mid and late 20th century, he has tirelessly explored Chinese and Western painting, traditional and modern art, integrated elements of Western art such as printmaking into Chinese painting, and given freehand painting cultivation in woodcut printmaking.

He was Zhu Xuanxian (1927-2002), a prominent Chinese painter, woodblock printmaker, cartoonist and art activist.
