How vocational colleges can play with digital teaching

The digital age has arrived. As a vocational education with strong practicality and strong application, it is a requirement and a challenge of the times to make up for the shortcomings of traditional teaching methods with the help of technical empowerment and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of teaching.

How can digital technologies penetrate the classroom and empower teaching? To promote the in-depth application of new technologies in vocational college education and teaching, what bottlenecks need to be broken? At the recent Hangzhou Municipal Education and Research Academic Festival, the theme forum of "Digital Teaching for the Future" tried to "take the pulse" of these issues.

How digital technology penetrates deep into the classroom, schools must have the courage to "matchmaking" for themselves

"Traditional vocational classrooms are undergoing profound changes driven by technology." Hong Binbin, vice president of the Hangzhou Academy of Educational Sciences, said that as data becomes a core element, the teaching structure, teaching process and teaching methods of vocational education will change.

In contrast to this trend, at present, the deep integration of China's education field and science and technology is still in its early stages, with a small scope of application and a low level. In this regard, Jin Weidong, president of Hangzhou People's Vocational School, believes that the majors of vocational colleges and universities are relatively niche in the field of education, and the lack of communication and matching between school needs and market technology development is an important reason for this problem.

"The development and application of software technology is not only a technical problem, but also an in-depth study of the teaching system, teaching methods, and educational needs, so as to develop application software that truly meets the teaching needs of vocational schools." Shi Jianguo, chief expert of the China Educational Technology Association and former director of the Zhejiang Provincial Education Technology Center, said.

Experts said that vocational colleges and universities should boldly "make media" for themselves, take the initiative to dock with enterprises and the market, and start from their own education and teaching development to put forward requirements for the research and development of digital resources and equipment for enterprises.

For example, Jin Weidong said that Hangzhou People's Vocational School took the initiative to contact enterprises to develop a dance training system based on AI intelligence based on classrooms, which solved the pain points and difficulties that are common in dance teaching such as long pre-class return time and no evaluation of after-class exercises.

"This system can accurately locate and intelligently diagnose the 15 basic movements of dance. In the past 45 minutes of dance lessons, the teacher needed to spend 30 minutes checking the content of the previous lesson. Now students can lay a good foundation with the help of the system and improve the efficiency of the classroom. Jin Weidong introduced that at the 79th China Education Equipment Exhibition this year, this artificial intelligence teaching system has received widespread attention.

In order to meet the needs of teaching and practical training, Hangzhou Transportation Vocational High School has implemented school-based development for intelligent teaching and management software, the middle vocational finance and trade major has created a regional network learning platform, and Linping Vocational High School has created a multi-screen interactive and robot-accompanied CNC classroom... These exploration practices, which are based on the needs of vocational colleges and universities, and unite the strength of enterprises, provide useful references for the digital reform of the classroom.

"Only when schools attach importance to technology application, communicate more with enterprises, and focus on practical teaching problems, can both sides quickly promote technology-enabled education and teaching." Jin Weidong thinks.

How to make good use of technology? The key core lies in "people"

"We need educators who understand technology and technical people who understand education." Shi Jianguo said that the key to making good use of digital education teaching resources is people.

In the Midwest, the problem of "people" is even more pronounced. In the western branch teaching, Yao Xiang, a teacher at Hangzhou Traffic Vocational High School, found that local schools also have a lot of intelligent teaching equipment, but because no one uses it, it is almost covered in dust.

In Hong Binbin's view, the large amount of investment and construction of education informatization in China over the years mainly solves the problem of "having" and "not", and has not solved the problem of "use or not", especially "good use", which is the key to promoting education teaching and technological progress at present.

"At present, the biggest pain point of education digitalization is still the lack of teachers' ability." Shi Jianguo said that the value of technology to education mainly depends on the way of use, "only change the way of knowledge representation technology is the lowest value, science and technology to really play a role in the core link of education and teaching, so as to break through the formalism of the 'skin', but this undoubtedly puts forward higher requirements for teachers' ability and literacy." ”

In this regard, Hong Binbin believes that in the context of the integration of middle and higher vocational education, vocational education personnel need to innovate their concepts, conform to the trend, grasp the teaching direction of "artificial intelligence + teachers", deeply integrate education and technology, accelerate digital transformation, and realize the transformation from traditional empirical teaching to data-based precision teaching.

In the view of Xie Chuanbing, an associate researcher at the Jiangsu Academy of Educational Sciences, the digitalization and integration transformation of teachers in vocational colleges and universities is not only a top priority, but also a long-term plan, "adhering to the reform and development path of information technology integration and innovation, adapting to the normalization of online teaching, and realizing the optimization of teachers' ability structure should become the consensus of colleagues on the vocational education front." ”

How to use technology to empower more? Vocational education should pursue balanced development in the east, middle and west

Using digitalization to break the limitations of time and space and build a bridge for the connection and sharing of resources between the east and the west was considered by the participating experts to be an important way to promote the balanced development of vocational education in the east, central and western regions. At the seminar, two vocational schools in Hangzhou and Taijiang, Guizhou, which are 1500 kilometers apart, used live broadcasting and artificial intelligence technology to stage a leap from "same screen" to "same frequency".

Accompanied by bursts of music, Cui Mengya, a dance teacher from Hangzhou People's Vocational School, and Gong Peipei, a dance classroom at Taijiang County Secondary Vocational School in Guizhou Province, taught "Dance Posture Creation and Choreography Practice" on the same screen. Three-camera recording, real-time high-definition live video, uninterrupted data collection and analysis, intelligent dance posture judgment and correction... Along with the dancing posture, there is also the vision of the future digital classroom.

"In the 5G era, no questions asked. A screen, the integration of artificial intelligence, big data, Internet + and other technologies, but also reflects the 'private customization' of the future learning concept. Huang Yun, deputy director of the Vocational Education Research Office of the Hangzhou Academy of Education, commented.

"These 'concept lessons' explore a direction and possibility for the classroom of the future." Yao Xiang, chairman of the Teaching and Scientific Research Council of The Hangzhou Academy of Educational Sciences, said, "With the help of 'digital + teaching', not only the educational resources that originally presented regional separation have overcome the space restrictions and achieved mutual sharing, but also used real-time and rich interaction to present the visible differences between the two places to all participants, making the help more accurate and effective, and promoting the balanced development of education in the two places."
