The Misty Mountains are an important geographical dividing line for Middle-earth

Ancient times

The Misty Mountains were created by Morgoth (the evil Enu) during the DoubleTree Era to stop Euromi (the hunter in Vera) from traveling east to hunt down evil creatures.

The elves moved west

After Euromi led the elves to the Anduin River, the Vanya and Nodo elves crossed the Misty Mountains to reach the Anduin River Valley.

Durin first woke up

Legend has it that One of the seven ancestors of the dwarves, Durin, awoke in the Gundabad Mountains. Mount Gundabad was revered as a holy mountain by the dwarves, but later it became a place where half-orcs were rampant.

Hobbit migration

Around 1050 A.D., the hobbits migrated west across the Misty Mountains to escape the growing shadow of humans and the Black Forest, and the historical record of the hobbits began.

By 2500 A.D. the area east of the Misty Mountains was no longer inhabited by hobbits.

Kathatum

Caesardom, the largest dwarf kingdom in Middle-earth, is located in the Mountains of Moria in the middle of the Misty Mountains, built beneath three peaks: the Red Horn Gate, Silver Tooth Peak, and Cloud Peak.

The dwarves built endless staircases inside the silver tooth peak mountain, which led from the base of the silver tooth peak to the top of the mountain, and at the top of the silver tooth peak stood the Tower of Dulin. Between the eastern flanks of the Moria Mountains is the Dark Creek Valley, which is home to Mirror Shadow Lake and the Durin Pillars.

Thorin and his party

Thorin Oak Shield and the others cross the Misty Mountains through Rivendell and the Highest Pass, where they are attacked by wind and rain and witness the power of the Golems, and are captured by the half-orcs hiding in the cave, Bilbo meets Gollum, who is hiding underground, and receives the Supreme Lord's Ring. Finally left the Misty Mountains with the help of the giant eagle.

The Lord of the Rings Expedition

The Lord of the Rings Expedition encountered great difficulties in crossing the Misty Mountains. In order to avoid the half-orcs and Saruman, the expedition decided not to take the High Pass and the Rohan Pass, but instead took the Red Horn Pass, but the strong snowstorm trapped the people on the mountain, in a dilemma, and finally had to take the road to Moria. They encounter the Fire Demon in Moria, and during the fight, Gandalf and the Fire Demon both fall into the abyss.

The Red Horn Pass crosses the moria mountains, to the west is Erigian (the kingdom inhabited by the elven craftsmen who built the Ring of Strength), and to the east is the Dark Creek Ladder that hangs down from the Red Horn Gate to the Dark Creek Gate.
