Usa Today reported on November 20 that on Monday, local time, Mancy Mayor Dennis Taylor's week began with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent standing at his door, he was detained in connection with a public corruption case.

Taylor was accused of stealing government funds. Federal authorities said he accepted $5,000 in cash because he handed over the "lucrative" excavation work to a local contractor.

According to an indictment against Taylor released Monday, Taylor is suspected of accepting stolen money from Tracy Barton, director of sewer maintenance and engineering in The Muncie District.

USA Today commented that mayors are not arrested by the FBI every day. But history shows that Taylor's arrests are not uncommon. In fact, the charges against Taylor are mild compared to previous charges and convictions for some Indiana mayors.

At least 12 mayors have been charged and/or convicted in local or federal cases in the last century, and there are now 4 mayors in Mancy City alone. Taylor is also the fourth Indiana governor to be arrested in the past five years.

These offences include prohibition violations, bribery and prostitution. A historian in Indiana said that while many of the previous allegations pointed to a specific period in history, they were no different from the public corruption allegations that still make headlines today.
