The Frenchman Regis Danne and his son Pierre Dann founded the Dane Company in 1881, specializing in the production of all kinds of light weapons. In 1915, the company was licensed to produce Lewis air machine guns, which was also the company's first attempt to produce air machine guns. In the process of producing the Lewis air machine gun, the Dane father and son accumulated a wealth of experience, and used this experience to design a new machine gun in 1916 using the principle of gas-conducted automatic and the bolt deflection latching mechanism. In 1917, The Dane Company selected a batch of sample guns to the French Army for testing. The French Army Weapons Department was very satisfied with the results of the test of the gun, and in August 1918 signed a considerable order with the Dané Company, instructing the Dane Company to provide a batch of machine guns in the spring of 1919 for the French Army infantry and use on aircraft.
