The painting style of the Ming Dynasty has changed in adhering to the brush and ink of the previous generation, and the number of literati and works involved has achieved amazing achievements. Especially in the middle of the Ming Dynasty, the Wumen school of painting that rose in Suzhou played a pivotal role in the development of Chinese literati painting.

If the Wumen School of Painting is the most brilliant branch of the Ming Dynasty painting world, then Lu Zhi has a position that cannot be ignored in the Wumen School. Lu Zhi was born as a Confucian scholar, and was known as a filial friend. The quantity and quality of his works are quite considerable, his paintings are widely taught in ancient laws, and include hundreds of schools, but they are not confined to ancient laws, he advocates seeking innovation from the past, creating the law of the teacher, and insisting on exploring his own painting style and artistic characteristics in the water of the model mountains. Lu Zhi's unique painting style can be regarded as a representative of the Wumen School's exploration and transformation in the painting tradition.

Lu Zhi (1496-1576) Ming Dynasty painter. A native of Wu County (present-day Suzhou, Jiangsu), the character Shuping, because he lived in Baoshan, called himself Baoshan. He is known as a filial friend. Gong Sketch xu and huang will. Dot dye flowers, birds and bamboo stones, often made in heaven. With a strong pen, the scenery is strange and dangerous, the artistic conception is clear, and the style is self-styled. In his later years, he was very poor, dressed in the clothes of a priest, hidden in the mountains, and planted chrysanthemums for self-appreciation. Some noble officials, because they knew that a certain painting please, made several answers. Its people are generous with their money to thank. Zhi Yue: I know that I am not poor. Stand still. Whoever asks for his painting, he who asks for it will not be able to get it, and if he does not ask for it, he will get it. Died at the age of eighty-one.

Lu Zhi, like most painters, had a teacher to guide him when he first started learning to paint, so as not to find his way. Lu Zhi's teacher, Wen Zhengming, learned well and had better moral character, and Lu Zhi followed suit to learn to compose poetry, write, and paint, and the two were as harmonious as friends. With the encouragement of the teacher, Lu Zhi drew as much as possible and learned all the teacher's methods. Wen Zhengming was glad that his literati painting style had been passed down, and further guided Lu Zhi to learn the brushwork of the Song Dynasty and the Yuan Dynasty. Lu Zhi worked very hard, and before the teacher taught, he had already worked the brushwork of the Yuan Dynasty painters Wang Meng and Ni Zhan, so the teacher taught it very smoothly. Lu Zhi is not only good at painting landscape paintings, but also can paint flowers and birds, and there are about forty or so flower and bird paintings in the works that have been handed down, and there are two styles of brushwork and freehand.

After the age of fifty, Lu Zhi lived in seclusion in Zhilu Mountain, and he was more attentive in reading and painting. Before that, Lu Zhi had taken the imperial examination and had the intention of holding public office. However, he failed to pass several examinations, so he chose a career in painting and gardening, and found another way. In Lu Zhi's long-term seclusion, gardening operations are also part of life. According to the records of Lu Zhi's friend Wang Shizhen, Lu Zhi was keen on gardening, especially liked to plant chrysanthemums, and there were hundreds of flowers and trees in the garden of Zhilu Mountain Residence. After a long period of observation of plant ecology, Lu Zhi can accurately grasp the shape of flowers, leaves and branches, and use skilled brushwork and fresh tones to convey unlimited business on paper silk. Near Suzhou, Zhilong Mountain belongs to granite geology, unique landscape, and the beauty of natural mountain stones, which brings Lu Zhi rich painting inspiration. Lu Zhi lived in seclusion in Zhilu Mountain, not to find a safe haven to hide, but to settle down from then on, start his career in calligraphy and painting, and really exercise himself.

The composition of Lu Zhi's landscape paintings wins with "ghostly danger", which is greatly related to his perennial residence in Baoshan, which is surrounded by mountains and rivers, and he is good at sketching scenery. Lu Zhi's works have a strong "bookish atmosphere", poetry and calligraphy are excellent, the painting style is elegant, and they can be quite unexpected.
